Have You Registered Your Taser?

Tasers are just another tool in the box. As an on duty officer, it's already a Class A felony in Arkansas to use a Taser, pepper spray, or any other incapacitating device on me. We're trained that lethal force is allowed if we're threatened with a Taser or OC. It happened in Springdale a few miles north of here when one of their officers shot a criminal who used OC on him. It was ruled a good shoot and nothing further came from the officer's use of lethal force.

So, we already have laws that make it illegal to use a Taser on police. Civilians have already been able to get Tasers for a while now, but the FOP still objects to Tasers that are a different color? :scrutiny:

Personally, I think we have enough laws on the books about Tasers. Carry one if ya want, be aware of its limitations, carry a back up lethal force option if you can. I also think you oughta have to "take the ride" before you're allowed to carry one, but that's just my cruel streak showing through.

It costs more.
It does less.
The range is very limited.
If you miss once, you are out of options.
To top it off, it is more difficult to activate than Microsoft Windows.

This product makes no sense.

It makes a whole lot sense to people who are unwilling to buy/carry/use a gun and/or unwilling to use lethal force for any reason.

That's the target audience. To most of us on this board, yes, this may not be useful. To Miss Trendy "Guns are Evil" Urbanite, this greatly extends her self defense range.

They really should add pepper spray capability to it though.

Also is nice for mister "I work in south central L.A. and can't get a ccw cause I'm not famous" It's better than nothing if you can't have a gun. For those who choose a taser over a gun. I feel sorry for them. They are starting off at a greater disadvantage.

That should apply to ccw too
In that case, I'm "qualified" to carry a knife and a stungun... the self-knifing was accidental (and luckily not as bad as it could've been) and the self-shocking with the stungun was teenage fun/idiocy (at that age, the two words are pretty much synonymous).

I won't ever carry a taser because I'm not convinced that a "well motivated" individual wouldn't go down long enough for me to escape the situation (assuming the environment is hostile, possibly via multiple threats). Though I don't carry it daily, pepper spray is my favorite for ease of use, potency, and the ability to confront more than one threat. More and more stories seem to have 2+ criminals involved, and my concern has grown accordingly.

I saw a video of a taser being tested on a angry bull. That bull went down and didn't persue the guy afterwards. They are effective, on one person. It is a tool with specific uses, like a gun or hammer, or screwdriver. I can hammer nails with a pistol or cut meat with a screwdriver. But the results will not be what I wanted.
Using the correct tool for the job, that's what separates us from monkeys.
