The "Man Cave" thread got me dreaming about a goal I've always had for the future: A gun range of my very own!

I live in suburbia at the moment, so my residential-sized yard won't allow for a gun range at the moment. Still, I know that a number of the folks on this site live in more rural settings, and have either mentioned ranges they have at their homes, or shown pictures of these ranges.

For those of you who have the luxury of land, would you care to post a picture of your own range (or simple shooting area)? I'm a bit curious to see what everyone has setup at their own homes, from the simple to the elaborate!

I took this photo to show a buddy how I used an adjustable spotting scope mount but you can see part of the bench, shade and targets out to 300 yards.

Looking at the range from the concrete pad we poured last winter at the hundred yard mark. Had some additions to the targets since then - more steel to shoot at!

I'm fortunate enough to have a home on a few acres in the Florida panhandle where I am allowed to shoot on my property. We feel VERY lucky to have found this little piece of property with a very nice house for the price we got it. Didn't even know at the time that we could shoot on it. Heckuva nice bonus on top of everything else!

It's a very simple little backyard range that lines up against a swamp (which I own a few acres of), so we shoot everything from rifles to shotguns, to handguns, and even practice knife throwing.

Our simple little range ain't much to look at, but it's on the other side of this bass pond in the backyard of my house:

This is the view if you were standing on our little range, looking back over your shoulder at the back of my house. It's kind of nice, okay - REALLY nice, to be able to walk out the backyard and shoot anytime you want :

Here are a few pictures of just some of the guns that we shoot:

This is a truckload of shotguns, rifles, and handguns that we shot and my son (who is a TV and Cinema major) recorded this past fall for his university's sound bank.

And, yes, we even do some knife throwing against an old barn back there. The stick next to my kid is what we use as a distance marker (told you it was a simple little range ):

And, of course, the kids will play paintball and do other crazy stuff back there. Here are two of my kids and some friends before a backyard AirSoft battle:

I've actually got some plans for the future of clearing some of the swamp out and extending the range. Right now, if we want to shoot our hunting rifles or Mosin Nagants for distance, we shoot them from the second floor balcony of the house at targets lined up against the swamp. And a few years ago I shot a couple of pigs from the second floor balcony with my 30 .06. So it's an interesting and fun little piece of property. We've seen beavers, coyote, bobcats, foxes, otters, pigs, coons, wild dogs and an interesting assortment of birds (including Bald Eagles) back there. And of course snakes - including Water Moccasins and Copperheads. :uhoh:

I've got a handgun and 22 range in the back yard. Mostly I shoot 5-25 yards but can back off to 50 yards.

A few hundred yards from the house is the 115 yard range.

Very nice, everyone! Please keep the pictures coming. Someday, when I break free of the grip that suburbia currently has on my home, I hope that I can add my own range pictures :)

Here is mine. Not much but is is only about 50 yards from my front door.
Left is my target and shooting rest(steering wheel.)
Right is my high tech 17 yard marker.

Also have a 200 yd rifle range on the other side of this dam.

i do believe i've turned a bright shade of green. I had to sell my western IL 40 acre tract when the tech sector crashed :( looking great, all!

Simple, but works

I'm just working on my "simple as I can keep it" version. It's just off my rear covered porch which helps when it gets hot.

I've had a decent range for a while, but just recently got around to really starting to set it up. I had a big gas tank rack that wasn't going to be used, so I set it out at the backstop. I picked up eight plates, made of AR500 hardened steel. I've got one hung so far, plus an expedient board for paper targets. Sooner or later, I'll get the rest of the steel hung - I have 4", 6", 8" and 10" gongs.

The range is a dry wash that's flat and level out to 300 yards or so, and then there are additional good shooting positions at 450, 600, and 1200 yards.

Man, some of you guys have a nice place to play. I wish I had my own range. I am getting tired of paying range fees. I guess I'll just keep dreaming until I finally move.

When I checked the range after some rather bad storms moved through last week, instead of seeing this.........

........I saw this.

What is amazing is the winds were high enough in this area to down trees and do other damage but that canapoy is still standing.

Fortunately I have a tractor big enough to pull that tree off the range.
Yesterday friends and I had a good time shooting.:)

I don't think the word 'jealous' accurately represents how I feel right now

Awesome ranges everyone. Maybe I"ll get the opportunity someday

My crazy old neighbor, who was really crazy in some ways, had a backstop and a target "trolley" set up in his basement. He had a huge fan that really did a great job at pulling the fumes out of there too. He died a while back and I asked the new owner about it, and he wondered what the giant fan and ductwork were for. The backstop had been removed before he moved in. I loved shooting over there, it was free, and nobody hassled you.

We just purchased a home with 10 acres and are planning on putting in a range....been looking into some spinner targets for the grandkids and will build target stands for the rest. We don't settle on the place until July but the sellers said to stop by anytime....might just take them up on it!

One really nice feature that the seller has also taken advantage of is the shop/garage....the rear window and rear garage door allows for shooting during rain/snow since it faces the intended range area.

50-100-200 yard rifle/pistol range....bench is inside an old livestock building, just open the window and start shooting. Clay target throwers turn it into a trap range.
