Hazmat Fees

Can I suggest you look for a local gun club? They frequently do 'Group Buy' bulk purchases. Even if it is a shotgun club, if they are buying from a supplier that stocks pistol supplies also, it's no problem for them to take care of you too.

If you find a powder that you really like and use a lot, buy an 8lb. keg, because the cost of it is usually like getting a pound free.

Midsouth Shooters Supply has the same tumbler as Berry's/Cabelas, just in red for about $46.

Prices have come down on powder and primers locally. (although not nearly enough) Powder is $24.95/lb and CCI primers are $28.95/1000.

I just bought an 8# jug of Clays (good for pistol too), for 115 OTD. That makes it about $14.37/lb. Buying bulk is the only way to save on reloading costs

Most of the LG Stores here in Virginia Beach are still charging $50+ per 1,000 for Win LR and Win SR plus 5% sales tax. When I ordered mine, Cabela's had them listed for $23.00 per 1,000 plus shipping and hazmat fees. I ordered 5,000 from Cabelas, so even with paying shipping and hazmat fees I still saved $15.60 per 1,000. To be fair, I did purchase 1,000 LRM primers at the C2 Shooting Center (located in Pungo) this past weekend for $34.00. They have several thousand primers in stock (including CCI LR Bench Rest, CCI SP, Win LP, Win LR and Fed SR), ranging from $32 to $34 per 1,000.

Sorry, OT
How do you like that Cabela's tumbler? I'm in the market for a new one...

AA how's it going. I am very happy with the Cabela's tumbler. It is a large capacity tumbler, advertised to hold 650 38 spcl cases. It is very light weight and quiet. I tumble in the garage and when I turn it on and go into the house I can't hear it after I close the door behind me. I have only had it two years but have friends that have had theirs for seven years or more with no problems. That's why I bought mine.

just a word on haz-mat fees,

this is the biggest rip off being played on the public today. I am an O/O and haul haz-mat all the time and believe me we are not getting any or very little for hauling it, someone mentioned that it is a cash cow and its a golden cow for the companies charging for it!!!

these shippers are charging sometimes 20 to 30 bucks extra for a ten pound package of whatever because its hazmat and a 53' trailer can hold 40,000 lbs PLUS and you can see that they are making a TON of money off of this.

it isn't the drivers of the trucks making anything extra, FED EX, UPS, ect are the ones cashing in along with the crooked Brokers in trucking.

everyone should call,write,e-mail their elected officials about this grand rip off and don't forget to write the companies that are selling this rip off scam and let them all know your displeasure.

Like someone above posted group buys are the way to go. I have 4 or 5 buds that all reload. When someone needs something the emails go out and we usually end up maxing out the 48lb hazmat limit. Our last order was right at $1000 my part of the total shipping was $12.50 that is less then I would have paid in sales tax let alone the savings on powder and primers if I had bought them locally. I have no problem supporting the local dealer but I refuse to be overcharged by over 25%.

Good Idea! If we would all bombard our elected official with email and letters someone may look into this "license to steal" !

I understand some products are really dangerous to ship, but the way primers and powder is package there is little chance of real danger.

I worked for the USPS for 35 years and very little of the packages with Haz. markings got any different handling than the others. The only one I remember that got special handling was the skunk pee that a local guy shipped and it did Not have any Haz markings at all.

I shipped quite a bit of HAZMAT when I was AD. Completing the paperwork required is easily worth $25.00.

If I'm buying powder and primers online, and I have, I buy at least 16 lbs of powder and 5000 primers, combined under one fee. Its not bad under that scenario.

USPS does not allow hazmats to be shipped via their system
