Better yet, PSA has had the Colt 6720 (with 1:7 twist lightweight barrel) on sale for $799 for a few months now.

Agreed, thats where I got mine.:D The 6721 is the same rifle, but with a silly HBAR barrel. HBAR is kinda goofy in a carbine....

Darn it, I missed that. Been looking for a mate for my old Lightweight Sporter. The 6720 is an awesome patrol rifle and just a handy little light carbine for knocking about.

Not quite. The 6721 has a 1:9 twist while the 6720 has a 1:7 twist. Unless you shoot bullets heavier than 62 grains the 1:7 is of no practical advantage.

I have a 6721 and a 6520 (1:7 twist, light barrel, A2 upper). The 6721 is easier to keep on target in rapid fire due to the heavier barrel. If I had to carry it a long distance, I'd take the 6520, though.

I know nothing about AR-15 except that there are ton of generic (non-Colt) companies making them. What is special about that model and why is it difficult to find?

It's difficult to find because the market for heavy-barreled carbines is small, and most folks want 1:7 twist for their carbines (to shoot a wider variety of defensive and plinking ammo).

For most carbine buyers, the 6920 (with 1:7 twist M4 profile barrel) or the 6720 (with 1:7 twist lightweight barrel) are going to be more desirable choices.

FWIW, my Colt HBAR Carbine 1:9 was a great shooter and quite capable of printing impressive half to three quarter inch groups with a good scope and quality handloads. I have never been able to duplicate that performance with any M4 or thin barreled AR.
