I had a guy tell me today he used dry graphite for some of his gun lube. I've used graphite for a few things at work where dry lube is necessary because of dust/metal flakes that stick to wet lube, but I've never heard of it as a gun lube. If I remember right it can be mildly corrosive to some metals.

I was just wondering if any of you have ever tried it.

For what it's worth he admitted it has zero rust protection, I'd argue if anything it may cause corrosion.

I can see the thought process behind it, but I think once you put it to a cost/benefit type analysis it's probably a bad idea. I don't see any huge advantage.

Gunslick used to be pretty popular with old timers. It is some sort of a graphite paste. I don't know how well it worked as a lube, but it was sure a filthy mess to use.

Graphite also causes galvanic corrosion of aluminum, so keep it away from guns with aluminum parts.

i've used it on semi-auto rifles in bitter cold conditions. (-20F) It's better than running them dry, way better than what was available at the time. (80's)

I've used Gunslick for 'breaking in' semi and pump guns in colder conditions, also used it on O/U shotgun actions for break-in.

here in Oregon, I use FrogLube and CLP Break-free with good results. Froglube has worked well for rust prevention with my platforms and our winters are wet here. Never used graphite in anything expect door hinges.
