Does anyone here know if there is any after market heavy duty mag tube available to replace the rather thin, and apparently made of aluminium, mag tube on Mossberg 500 shotguns? In particular the 8 round tube seen on some Mossberg 500A shotguns.

I "think" Mossberg 500 tubes ARE steel???

I think that Mossberg makes steel tubes for use on their Model 590 series.
These are just upgraded Model 500 guns, so the tube should fit.

Mossberg apparently now uses a Loctite bonder to hold the threaded magazine tube in the receiver.
You have to WARM the area around the tube and where it's screwed into the receiver to about 300 degrees to break the bonder down, then grip the tube close to the receiver with a synthetic strap wrench to unscrew it.

Note I said WARM. DO NOT over heat, since you can ruin the gun. 300 degrees is not that hot, so be careful.

Humm ? I haven't heard of magazine tube failure in the Mossbergs - they are indeed steel tubes and I don't think the 500 and 590 tubes are interchangable - seems to me the 590 has a open tube at the front with a nut like an 870 Rem. That would mean you would have to use the 590 barrel with the 590 magazine tube.

I know of no aftermarket mag tubes for the 500.

And you're right.
I plain forgot that the 590 series uses a different tube. The threads are likely the same but the tubes won't interchange.
