when was the last time anyone demanded a US citizen quarter a soldier anyway? the civil war? the military either sleeps in motels or brings its own quarters most of the time.

Boulder City, Nevada, early 1942 through mid 1944. We had a soldier (Sgt) and his wife quartered with us. He was shooting instructor for the training base there, which was a small, "special duty" training camp. He spent some times in the back yard with me and my Red Ryder. :D Then, he shipped out for the Pacific and she went back to her home.

Note the the amendment does indicate "...nor in time of war..."

Just because the government is not trying to violate a right doesn't mean the enumeration and protection of that right is obsolete.

We're so used to oppression (actual and/or perceived and/or imagined) that it often escapes notice & understanding when the government actually respects & protects a right.
