New member here, didn't feel right just "lurking". Been in the world of black powder since 1977 & have loved every day of it. I've learned a lot, but still have a long row to hoe. One can never be too old to learn. I'll be seeking info on 1861 Enfield Artillery rifles, from time to time. I've gleaned some info @ different sites, but settled on roosting here. I'll check back later when the eye-lids aren't so heavy. Be safe & shoot straight.

Welcome to THR. Standard works on the subject:

British Military Longarms 1715-1865 by D. W. Bailey
The British Soldier's Firearm: From Smoothbore to Smallbore 1850-1864 by C. H. Roads
The Civil War Musket: A Handbook for Historical Accuracy - Lock, Stock and Barrel: Modifications for Reproduction Civil War Era Enfield and US Pattern Muskets and Rifle-muskets by Craig L. Barry. This is an outstanding work.
Firepower From Abroad by Wiley Sword
Firearms From Europe Mostly a photo essay with some text
The Rifle and How to Use It by Hans Busk. Valuable for its contemporary perspective on the Enfield.

I have all three Parker Hale rifle-muskets (39", 33" and 24"). I use a minie casted from a PH mould and backed by 65 grains FF.

Welcome to you.
Can't find your thread, just do it again.
If the first one shows up one will go to the great repeat cache in the sky.
No harm.

BTW, the mid-length 33" Enfield was generally kept for the Confederate sharpshooters. Mind you, "sharpshooters" is a very loosely applied term and the vast majority of them served as light infantry with only a few actually serving as what we call snipers today.

Watch that 4V50 guy. Every time I read his stuff or check his leads I find myself learning stuff and then realizing how little I know. Welcome!

this site and guys on it are the best bunch you will ever find any were .

Welcome aboard silverchief.

I am not currently into BP but am very interested in it. Glad to have someone else knowledgeable about the subject on board.
