Help a NYer with a rifle purchase.

AR's can be had in plenty of quantities in NYS. I've been with friends on about 5 occasions when they've purchased them from gun shops. If it's a collapsible stock it needs to be pinned. Obviously they will be semi auto

Thanks everyone for the great advice.

I wanted to thank Bill especially for steering me towards gunbroker.com. I managed to order 5 preban 30 round Colt mags for about $125. I didn't want them to get any rarer even if I were to wait on the actual rifle purchase.

Mostly you all have shown me new companies and websites where I can ogle different guns. However, the easiest way has been to walk into a shop and pick these rifles up and that is what I have been doing. In the process, my wishlist has increased in size.

I want to purchase (pending that I nab this job)

1. R15 or AR variant
2. SA M1A
3. Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine
4. Remington 870
5. SA 1911 Operator
6. HK USP .45
7. HK USP .45 Compact

An expensive wishlist, but i believe the AR will be sooner, rather then later, probably followed by the Shotgun.

Get the AR instead of the Mini. Mags are cheaper (pre-ban) and you can convert your AR with the 'scary' collapseable thingy, the muzzle grenade what-sit, and high capacity 'clip thingermabobs of mass distruction' --if and when the fat-heads in your state wake up.

Well, I am still shopping around for that AR and had a quesion about SP1's.

How would a gun that old hold up to thousands and thousands of rounds of shooting?

Are these pretty bulletproof models? Pun intended.
