Yes, I've done some searching, both here and Google.

Anyways, I'm looking for a holster that may or may not exist, since it's pretty specific. As the thread title shows, this is for a 4" N frame (it's a .44 Mountain Gun) - it needs to have the following:

A. OWB
B. Snap removable (not slide-on) – this is to fit on a backpack’s hipbelt on TOP of the tensioner straps, and a slide on won't work. (I’ve tried a IWB but it just messes with the hipbelt’s tension too much)
C. Not super expensive (i.e. custom leather). I guess $50 or less is my goal, since I really cant justify spending a lot on a holster that is only going to be used about once a year, for a few days while backpacking.
D. Preferably – light (thus, synthetic materials would be preferred over leather)

The following are close, but no banana:

a. Galco m7x Matrix – perfect, but no N frame
b. Bianchi Evader (model 4584) – perfect, but no N frame
c. Bianchi Accumold, model 7506 – only for 10, 15, 19, 586, 686 and similar K/L frame models (Could I “make it work" for an N frame??? It does brag about its adjustable strap)

I know I can make one out of kydex, but I’d really just rather buy one if possible. I’ll save this as a last resort.

Many thanks for any info you can provide.

Lobo makes what you're looking for but it will cost you a hair more than $50 (53.50 +5 if you want hammer shield, +10 for detailed boning and +3 for shipping if the total is under $60).

Hunter and S&W used to make field holsters for the 4" N frame that should fit the bill. The belt loop is a leather flap that has a strap attached and snaps in the front. I have a S&W model for my 4" S&W 28-2 Highway Patrolman. Check some of the auction sites for a used one or check with the 2 companies websites.
