I noticed on my new gun that it appears as if the ejecting brass is rubbing against the area on the outside of the slide where the brass ejects. Hard to describe the area. The area that is recieving what appears to be minor scratch marks from the brass is circled below.

Are there any cleaners or procedures that are recommended to remove these minor scratch marks without harming the finish? The scratch marks don't appear to have "cut" the finish, just rubbed up against it. None of my other handguns have this issue so I don't think it is "normal wear and tear".

Thanks

Sounds and looks like just brass rubbing off the case as it rotates back out the ejection port. Solvent and elbow grease should take it off with no harm to finish. You might try a heavier recoil spring which will slow the slide down some to eliminate the problem, or the flare needs to be cut deeper and extended back which means refinishing the slide.

Stop shooting the gun and the brass cases won't leave marks. What's the problem. You shoot the gun, so it isn't a collector. The brass marks won't damage the finish or cause rust. If you want it to look like it's never been fired, don't go shooting with it. Otherwise, keep some CLP on it and enjoy it.

Yes, I regularly use CLP on all my guns. I am very picky about how my guns look inside and out.

Any other ideas about what to use to remove minor brass scratches?

I am pretty sure the extractor is working correctly. I had no FTF or FTE with the Winchester White box loaded in the Kimber mag.

Anyways, the point of this thread is not if I should attempt to maintain my gun in like new condition or not. That is for me to decide.

What I need help with is locating the proper cleaner or procedure to maintain my guns in top notch condition.

Thanks again.

My Kimber gets the same marks on the flute as yours does. I just put a few drops of CLP on a patch, wipe over the brass marks and then scrub lightly with a nylon brush for a minute or so. I use a cotton cloth to wipe the CLP off and repeat if needed. Not all of the brass marks come off the first day. I use the same three-day system of firearms cleaning I used in the military. By the third cleaning most of the brass marks are gone.

You could try cutting a small peice of electrical tape to fit the affected area. I've used this method with AR15s and FALs with pretty good success. It is easily removed after practice and any residue can be readily wiped off with a bit of solvent.

I've always gotten brass marks with elbow grease and Hoppes #9.

Good Shooting

A little dab of copper solvent will remove the marks. Just dab a little on with your finger. No scrub as that will remove finish eventually. Wipe off in a few minutes and put a little dab of Breakfree on there. Good as new. HTH.
