What would the zero distance be for the 45-70 Handi Rifle using 325 grain Hornady Leverevolution ammo. This rifle will be used in the primitive weapon deer season in Mississippi. I would appreciate you input.

I guess finding out how well you see and shoot with open sights would be the first order of business. Also what ranges do you think your deer will be at.
I'm not familiar with Miss. but if its as wolly as the spots I set up to hunt in Texas a 75-100 yard zero should be fine. Not too high at 50 and you should be able to use the top of the back for an aiming point to 150 yards or so.
You need to shoot your rifle with your load to check the actual drop. This is a slow bullet and any variation from a ballistic chart on velocity will make a difference at longer ranges.
Most people worry way too much about 2-300 yard shots when you are more likely to get a 50 yard shot from a white tail. I have killed 30+ deer and two Elk and only one kill was longer than 85-90 yards. But thats because of the places I choose to hunt. And no, not just over feeders either.

That is very reasonable. We will probally have the timber cut off a 52 acre lot that I usually hunt in. The longest range I could possibly shoot would be 150 yards and with 50 to 100 being more probable. I might be better off using the fixed sigts if I have enough light. I used a 94 Winchester with iron sights last year on the same plot of ground during regular gun season and killed three. Those shots were all under 50 yards. Thanks for your input.
I'd zero it at 100 and get familiar with how it shoots at 50 and 200.
That ammo won't be like the .45-70 I've shot (BP and 525 grains), but it had a lot of drop. Sighted in at 100, it shot noticeably high at 75 and dropped enough to miss a large steel plate at 225.
Dropped a buffalo in one shot -- the bullet went clear through and kept going. But it doesn't shoot flat like a .270, or even a .30-30.
