Need some help here fellows. The father of a lady who works for me recently passed. She asked me to sell a gun that belonged to him. I am completely unfamiliar with it, so am coming to you for help.
It is a .50 caliber, double rifle, percussion. the ONLY thing printed on it is "KODIAK cal .50" , and a serial # on the left barrel. I'm very well versed on most things "gun", and I can tell you that this is a high quality rifle. Excellent, beautiful, checkered wood, rich, deep blue, with tasteful engraving on the smaller metal parts. It has a metal buttplate, double triggers, and twin, folding, express type rear sights. The fine wood has a Monte Carlo comb.
I assumed before I saw it that it was a Pedersoli, but that name is not on it.
What have I got, and what is it worth???
Thanks in advance,

Thanks a lot. I was puzzled because the one I saw on Gunbroker had "Pedersoli" and "Italy" printed on the barrel, and mine doesn't. Am I correct in believing it's a high quality piece?

Skipper, high end doubles such as Holland & Holland sell for $100,000.00 and up. So if price is any indication the rifle you are asking my not be a super high quality double. But there is no need to tell the lady who has it that.

LOL, oldbear. I wasn't talking about THAT amount of quality!! Just comparing this to other, lower end repro's. This thing is very clean. Any idea of a "real world" value?

Width out knowing exactly which Kodiak Double you have ( they seem to come in various grades ) the best thing you can do is google Kodiak Double rifle, I see them for sale, 1000 for plain Jame to 4500 NIB for the deluxe in 45-70. I always liked those guns, just never could figure a reason to buy one:D

There are two kinds of Kodiak doubles. The percussion (caplock) Kodiaks have been made for a few decades. I remember reading the history of them some time ago, but as far as I can remember that brand name has always been made by Pedersoli. Some are marketed by Cabelas and others so they may have slightly different markints.

The Kodiak Mark IV's are breech loaded centerfire rifles and a lot more expensive.

If you have a caplock .50, you have the less expensive MLing type. It's a good rifle. Used they go from $400 to $600 bucks. Check GB for current market trends.

Thanks guys. This stuff is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. Wanted to get a little up to speed before I try to sell it.
Btw, I've been away from THR for a spell, and had forgotten how many people we have here that are well informed, and ready to share that knowledge. Thanks again.
