Hello , I need help. I recently inherited a Marlin 336 lever action 30-30. It has not been used in quite some time. I have inspected it and It appears to need a serios cleaning, other than that its immaculate. Well, Cleaning it is the issue. I have not been able to find a takedown guide. Could anyone walk me through it? Pics would be awsome. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have not taken mine apart in a while, but if I remember, you take the screw/bolt out of the lever pivot point, then the lever drops out and then you can remove the bolt from the rear. A springy thing inside may come out, but it is not under any real tension. I think it is the ejector(?) perhaps. That is as far as I have taken mine apart. There is a Marlin forum over on Marlin's website that might provide more in-depth info.

Hang on - the folks with the pics and such will be along.

Me, the last time I had a Marlin lever gun - I handed it to a gunsmith to checkout and clean. Of course I grabbed the Model 29 he just refurbished, tuned and all...grabbed a box of ammo and went out back and shot steel plates.

I subscribe to " Work smarter - not harder. ;)

Well - someone had to test the loads worked up... :D

Still cant find anything

Not 2 much help so far... But thanks for what has been posted.

ROYG - the link doesent work but thanks.

*Bump*

Its not that hard to take one down for cleaning

1. make darn sure its not loaded
2. Open the lever half way, and remove the lever screw, then the lever itself.
3. ease the bolt to the rear, and out of the receiver
4. take care to not lose the ejector, its the little spring looking piece
5. Clean the barrel from the breech end
6. clean the action, and lightly oil it
7. reassemble in the reverse order. Make sure that the ejector is in the right position before you slide in the breech bolt. Push bolt forward until its about an inch of being fully closed
8. Insert the lever, and reinstall the screw.

Disassembly

As always, use proper screwdrivers. Brownell's sells a kit with their magnatip screw driver handle and the six or so bits you'll need for a 336. It's worth getting.
