Fella's;

Actually, I was basing the comment on the data in Hornady #9, page 389. The development gun was the 94 Winchester, the load was the Hornady 140 plastic-tipped bullet, the muzzle velocity was 2300 fps, and the B/C is shown as being .277

Admittedly, the wheel has new rubber on it what with the advances in both powder & bullet technology, but 30-30 & a 94 is the same old wheel.

I got the impression that you figured the little Russian would not measure up. And in a sense, at closer ranges and a heavier bullet, the 30-30 has an edge.

My data for it shows a 125 gr. at 2400 fps, a 130 at 2300, and a 150 at 2200, all under a low 37 000 psi. I would have no problem using this for deer. I don't know the pressure ceiling for the small CZ in 7.62, but I would venture that these are extremely low for the gun.

The 160 gr FTX over Lever gets you 2500 or near as darn it. The little Commie intermediate round just can't beat 1890s American muscle. And the Cowboy Assault Rifle beats that People's Tractor Factory #5 sheet metal abomination like a dusty rug. :neener

Apologies to OP for the utterly irrelevant digression

My Wife and I have been the *%#* outta all of you guys! So much fun! Thanks all! BTW, now you have her so confused she just kinda wants them all. Hmmm... sounds like her Husband...

Since y'all just joined the range I'll assume you plan on more shooting (being retired and all). My wife and I are also in this category. We both have a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and an AR-15. We spend "quality time" shooting the creedmoor at 600 yards. We then go over and shoot the AR's at 100-200 yards and fire a lot more rounds (.223 ammo is cheaper than 6.5 ammo). Makes for a real fun day. What I mean to say is keep the .308 and fire it sparingly to stay proficient. Buy the AR to shoot more rounds and have a blast without getting beat up. Both have their good points/benefits and you get variety. We also shoot for points against each other and keep score. Loser buys lunch :cuss:
