OK I'm in the market for revolver that shoots 44mag or 45lc. I'm looking at the Taurus 44S4 and the Ruger Black Hawk or Red Hawk. It will only be used for target shooting. Any Suggestions on the two? Or should I look for something different? Thanks in advanced for the help.

It will only be used for target shooting.

I'd go single action if that were the case. You can get great revolvers in .45lc (and they are a little less expensive than the DA .45LC's that are available.

And there's that whole cowboy thing. Plus, you're from Joisey, so a SA is less likely to be called a "bullet hose" or some other such nonsense.

Riger Bisley Blackhawk45LC or Ruger Super Redhawk in 454. Do you have any plans to scope the pistol? The Super Redhawk is precut for rings and includes a set with each gun. Some Blackhawks are too.

I have a Taurus Raging Bull 454 Casull which also allows me to shoot 45LC if I wish. Talk about a hand cannon! For this one I wear PAST shooting gloves. I'm not at all recoil sensitive but with 454 that sucker hurts without the gloves.

When you say target, you're talking informal paper punching, right? Cause none of your choices will do for formal target shooting.

If that's the case, I'd definitely stay away from Taurus and stick with the Rugers. I like the Super Blackhawk just because it's fun to break down. Anytime I break down a double action Ruger it's like somebody changed parts on me when I try to put it back together.

Do you reload? If so, definitely the Ruger hands down no question. The Ruger SBH/SRH will handle the abuse of some really hot handloads. If you don't reload, I'd get the .44 mag because factory ammo in .45 Colt is expensive and there's not as much variety as there is in .44 mag. Well, the .44 mag isn't cheap either, that's for sure. Even the .44 specials are expensive.

If you reload, there's a lot more debate between the 2 cartridges. They are both extremely versatile cartridges for the handloader. If you don't reload, you should definitely start....especially when you're considering those kinds of cartridges.

There's lots of used SBH .44s out there for cheap. I'd get one of those if they feel good in the hand.

I have three S&W M25s in .45LC, and took all three shooting today, and put 100 rounds downrange among them. Lots of fun.
Yes, I reload, so it didn't hurt a bit. :)

I have a 4", a 6" and a Mountain Gun. I need to downsize my collection a bit and was trying to figure out which one to keep.

I'm not much closer to making a decision. Maybe I need to put another 100 rounds downrange and think about it some more...

Redhawk Either caliber.

45 Colt firearms are kind of additive. I load rounds from 165 to 325 grain bullets. If you don't reload, 44 Magnum ammo is much easier to find locally. Some of the 45 Colt firearms that I shoot...

Wleoff;
How come no bolt guns? :)

"Nice group"

45 Colt is addictive, never sold any, can'tn just can't........

I really like my Ruger Bisley Convertible, in stainless steel with a 5.5" barrel, chambered for .45 ACP and .45 Colt. Cannon enough for me. My hands are too small for Redhawks, because I can't reach the trigger in DA mode; if I have to cock it, anyway, I will just use an SA sixgun.
