Ok here's the situation. Right now I have:

1) SAR1
2) Saiga 7.62x39

I'm getting kinda bored with them and I don't believe I need two 7.62x39 rifles. I'm debating what I'd like to do with them. I've thought about a couple things. I'd really like to have an AR-15 and a Saiga 12 Gauge.

1) Selling the Saiga and getting a Saiga shotgun or a CETME.
2) Selling the SAR1 and converting the Saiga. Reason for this is because the finish on the Saiga is better and it's also quite a bit more accurate.
3) Selling both guns and buying an AR-15. I figure I can get at least $200 for the Saiga and $250 for the SAR1, kick in $100 and I'd have $550 for an entry level AR-15. I may be able to get more for each rifle, who knows. This is my #1 option right now.

What would you do?

What would you do?

I'd slap myself silly and do the same for whoever slipped drugs into my drink. :neener:

Seriously though, I'd keep one 7.62x39mm AK clone. Save your pennies, and buy an AR. Or learn how to build one.

Well, the most economical way to get a good AR right now is to pick up a stripped lower reciever, a lower parts kit, and then a used stock from the Equipment exchange on AR15.com. That will probably set you back about $175-200. Then you need an upper. Complete RRA uppers start at around $350 (for a basic 20" A2 - www.adcofirearms.com). You may be able to find a good deal on a used upper, but it's rare to find anything much cheaper then a brand new RRA upper will run you. So you can get a good quality AR15 in your price range.

That said I'd probably keep at least one of the AKs and just save up the $550.

Sell your least favorite AK clone.

You'll be halfway to an AR automatically.

Then, save up the other half of the AR.

Keep the SAR-1 an sell the Saiga.

Spend $20.00 for a membership at Ar15.com then buy a SEBR Cav-Arms lower for $165.00. You can pick-up an upper and B/BC/CH later for $300.00 or so.

Enjoy owning 2 great weapons.

Sell the Saiga, buy a lower AR receiver for about $110, then buy the kit from Model 1 Sales or JT Disributing, or someone else, and you'll have an AR for around $500.

Well, given that you called your AK's AR's in the title of your thread--I think we can assume you have your heart set on an AR.

So the SAR, keep the SAIGA and save up for the AR.

Don't get the CETME. It'll need some tweaking, then you'll love the way it shoots, and you'll trick it out, and you'll never get to your AR.

I was there once. I wish I had saved my money and purchased exactly what I wanted the first time around. Thousands of dollars and some years later I finally figured it out. You may not always get what you pay for, but you do most of the time.

So be patient. :)

I'd just save up and buy the AR-15. If that is not an option, then sell the SAR-1 and convert the Saiga down the line. If you can't afford the AR all at once, then buy it in pieces- first the lower, then the upper, then the lower reciever parts, stock, bolt and bolt carrier, and put it together. Each of those components costs about $80-110, except for the upper- its more like $300.

There's nothing wrong with buying just the lower-half of an AR and having just that for a while. Heck, I had a bushy lower half in my safe for probably 6 months until I could get the upper half. And then you can say, by the letter of the law, that you own an AR because the receiver is all that counts to the ATF ;) Keep both the SAR-1 and the Saiga, selling guns sucks because buyer's remorse comes quick.
