I'm looking for a 1911 chambered in 9mm. Not really particular about any specific features, more so wondering who has experience with 9mm 1911's and which ones. What you like and don't like about them. I think my budget is <$1000 or maybe closer to the $800 mark as it seems that might be the sweet spot for a good 1911. I've looked into the ultra budget models like the rock island armory, and Tisa from Buds, but have a few reservations about guns as cheap as this. I like the sig 1911's but fear the parts commonality isn't what it should be based on what I've read. Thanks for the help.

I've owned a Rock Island Armory "Tactical" model 1911 in 9mm. It was a great pistol. Basic, but with the additional features you'd want most--sights and beavertail.

If you've got extra money and want to spend more, go for it, but for the money, the RIA is a great pistol.

I guess if your gonna commit blasphemy Rock Island, Sig Sauer, STI Trojan I believe can be had in 9mm

RIA "Tactical" 9mm 1911. Mine has been great for the first 10,000+ rounds.

guess if your gonna commit blasphemy Rock Island,
An RIA "Tactical" .45ACP 1911 will later get you back on the right side of the Gods :)
After than you can go for their new 10mm 1911 and have a trifecta :)

Aaron Baker was that the Hi-cap or the standard cap version? I like the idea of a high capacity double stack style setup, and to all you 1911 guys who are going to whine about 9mm and double stack well too bad. ;) BTW I'm not opposed to a .45, just have a stock pile of 9mm guns and reloading components. Makes it easier. Good news is I can use the same powder I use for 9mm on .45's when I get there.

Ain't nothing wrong with an RIA, or a Tisas for that matter (I own a Tisas and it's served me well these last 3 years) but they're kind of soulless. They're great if you just want a toy, but if OP wants a nice 1911 in 9mm and doesn't want to shell out $1,000+, then Springfield is really the only way to go.

That is, until Ruger decides to release the SR1911 in 9mm.

My Kimber Custom II in 9MM has been 100% reliable. I have 8,300 rounds thru it thus far.

My RIA TCM happens to be a nice doublestack 9mm 1911 based gun. And it easily comes in under the proposed budget.

My RIA 9mm CS tactical beats that budget with a huge margin, and it's a good carry gun as well.

I have a Rock Island 9mm

and it has worked fairly well, it doesn't like most Hollow points, but it feed FMJ pretty much flawlessly. If I were to get another budget 9mm it would be the Taurus. They seem to feed everything because of the ramped barrel. I have the Taurus PT 1911 in the correct caliber,45 acp:D, and it is a great gun. I would go for the Taurus.

I think I would start by looking for a RIA or a Springfield Armory for a 9mm. M1911. Have experience with both and believe them to be a good buy for the money.

I use springfield mags in my RIA 9mm Tactical to get around feeding issues. Works well.

Chalk another one up for the STI Spartan. Have a spartan IV in 9mm and zero issues or regrets :)
