Wilson's drop-in beavertail can be accomplished by the home gunsmithing crowd. I've had one simply pop right in, the other 2 I've had installed while getting something else done (but they didn't go right in) - gunsmith did it in 15 minutes and charged me $5 each for installation. Hammer can be done, but probably better if you buy a pre-fit hammer/sear combo. Grips? No problem. Thumbsafety? A little bit of patience, but doable. There may be some tutorials over at www.1911forum.com. Likewise, triggers can be drop-in but to smooth them out and lighten the pull may take a little bit of experience. With the sights you can easily change out the rear (hopefully it still has a standard 1911 dovetail, if not you may be in for some fitting). The front sight on this gun is staked in place and you have to know what you're doing for that. So everything but the sights can be done at home. I'd get a 1911 shop manual or video for these tasks, though.

Range report:

I wasn't expecting much from my new 1911 and I was pleasantly surprised at the flawless function of the pistol.

I shot exactly 59 bullets through the 1911, some hollowpoint and some fmj. Not a single hickup. It even fed perfectly two bullets that my friends' $700 1911 jammed on due to minor flaws in the shells. This made me VERY happy.

I was disappointed in the poor sights and accuracy. It shot a few degrees to the left of point of aim. I will get this and the grips fixed soon.

Other than that, I am very pleased. I am a new convert to the 1911.
