My next purchase will be a Daly Defense AR-15/M4 style rifle, please help me decide which one.

Consider me a total newb to this type of gun because I do not have the energy or time to learn everything there is about the AR type rifle. I will be using this for mostly punching holes in paper and plinking. It could also be used for home defense. I personally love the looks of the original fixed stock 20 inch barrel AR-15/M16. Daly has the DR-15 if I was to go that route.

But I keep thinking that an M4 style would be more practical if I wanted to use it for home defense thus giving it another reason to purchase in the wife’s eye's. For the M4 style I really like the D-M4 because I love the looks of the carry handle. But is the D-M4LE a better choice?

So between those 3 which would u pick?

their web site makes little sense to me you can get lower a and upper b and its cheaper than the whole thing in some cases by $200 how is this?

Can you tell me what "goodies" the D-M4LE has over the D-M4? From the descriptions the only differences that stand out to me are that the D-M4LE has
Milspec diameter receiver extension with "H" buffer
Chrome lined 4150 barrel with a 1x7 twist rate

Whereas the D-M4 lists a
Chrome lined 4140 Chrome-Moly match barrel with a 1x9 twist
A3 detachable carry handle....that I think just looks right on this type of rifle.

What do these differences mean in the real world and are there more differences that I’m not seeing?

Better barrel steel means you can shoot the thing all you can afford without worrying about gas port erosion (and I KNOW steel...I work for a forging company in the quality control department)

Faster twist means you can shoot ALL available bullet weights accurately...up to 80 grains anyway...even though they wont fit in the mag.

You never know what may happen or how a person may decide to use the rifle...versatility matters in the real world.

The carry handle can be bought separately for the D-M4LE...I didn't realize that it didn't come with it

How long has CD been selling ARs? Does anyone know where they are made, and who is making them? I'd do some research before buying a new product from a new source; especially since there are so many tried and true AR manufacturers out there.

I'm sure someone else can give you the particulars as I have read the info you asked for but I cannot recall the manufactures names off hand. What I can recall from reading several hands on reviews is that while these are new they do indeed appear to be very good quality. My thinking is that since they are the new kid on the block and people are saying the quality is there I want to grab one before the quality starts to slip once they get a foot in the door and decide to relax that QC.

Ok went back and reread some stuff and this is from Michael Kassnar (President, K.B.I., Inc.) "All parts are 100% made in the US. And yes, our guns are built on DoubleStar lowers, machined by JV Precision in CT. Barrels are Shaw or Wilson, depending on the build. That's as much information that we've been willing to disclose up until now, other than to reiterate, 100% US made."

M4LE, the price between the DM4 and the D-M4LE is not very much. So I would be willing to pay $50 more for 4150 and 1:7" twist.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the Charles Daly's the ones that were essentially designed around the lists here and at arfcom of things to look for in an AR-15, construction wise (e.g. parkerizing under the front sight base, solid buffers, heat-shielded hand guards). If so, then I may be interested in one myself.

I'm not sure about the list you posted but people say Daly really did pay attention to details when they designed their AR's. Here is a list that compares features with the other major manufactures
http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=6642

Daly’s do not get a check for the FSB Parkerizing but they do for the double shield hand guards and the H buffer. According to that list of features it goes in this order...Colt, Noveske, LMT, Daly....

Percey, you're right. Daly did their homework through some grassroots research. The result is a pretty nice carbine that a lot of knowledgeable folks seem to like.

D-M4LE is the way to go.

Thanks guys! I have my FFL guy looking into availability and pricing on the D-M4LE. I also asked him to check into getting the A3 detachable handle from Daly. He'll get back to me tomorrow.

It seems like I read that the handles were not available separately?? I sent Charles Daly an email asking if they were, but haven't gotten a reply yet.

markush,

I looked in my inbox and haven't found your email. Perhaps my spam filter has caught it and it is not possible for me to check that from my home.

We are not setup yet to sell parts, but if the detachable carry handle is what's holding you back, I'm sure I can find one for you. When I get to the office in the morning I will PM you a price for it.

Have your dealer call me if he has any difficulty in locating a D-M4LE for you. The wholesalers that should have them (these names will be familiar to your FFL) are:

Sports South, RSR, Ellett Brothers, AcuSport, Lipsey's, JSC, Simmons, OSHI, and possibly Zanders. I know Davidson's (galleryofguns.com) is currently out of stock.

And congrats on your buying one of our rifles/carbines. You will enjoy many years of great shooting with it.

Sincerely,

WOW! What else can I say besides...Thank you very much Mr. Kassnar!

I passed along your suggestions to my FFL guy and am looking forward to your PM regarding the carry handle!

I'm always on the lookout for something unique and knowing that my D-M4LE could be one of the first to have a Daly carry handle brings a big grin to my face :D

Here it is...the D-M4LE With the A3 carry handle from Mr. Kassnar. Thanks everyone!
