Well I have decided that I am going to switch from my S&W 642 .38spl to my Kahr K-9 9mm for CCW. I made my decision tonight because the 642 is uncomfortable im my waistband. The Kahr carries flatter and with a good holster, I will be more comfortable.

I want IWB for sure. I prefer leather. I want something that is comfortable above all else. I like the IWB style that puts the two clips on the side rather than the single clip that makes the gun feel fatter. I want to be able to carry without a belt if I need to. I want to be able to slip it on and off without a hassle since most of my trips are short. I don't want to leave it at home because it was too much hassle to carry. Price is a factor only because I don't want to spend $100 on a holster that I don't like. I am in the finding what works for me stage so I might be going through a few before I find what I like.

I have a Bianchi holster now that is made of a soft sythectic material and it is comfy but it is not easy to remove. I have to take the gun out and then take the holster out. It is also not very secure.

What are my options for a not a lot of cash? Is there a good $40-60 holster for the K-9? Less is fine as well as I am not a holster snob in the least.

Good choice, mate!

Hey, by the way: thanks mucho for steering me towards the K9. Fine, fine piece, it is, and I haven't even shot it yet. (Only dry fire with an unloaded gun...yeah, i got busy this week and still haven't made it to the range, but soon!...)

However, in my 'spare time' between work bouts this week, i have been reading lots about defense rounds, training, aiming and ... lucky you...holsters.

I must have looked at every holster maker's web site between here and {choose your american destination}.

I've looked at Sparks, Alessi, Bulman, K&D, Delfatti, Fist, Hume, DeSantis, Galco, Unkie Mike, Blocker, Sherrick... oh, yes, the list continues. Then, at the recommendation of someone on a thread that i started on this same issue, i looked at High Noon holsters.

Now admittedly I haven't completely committed yet. I like to give such purchases a bit of time, and I have been busy (# of posts to THR notwithstanding).

But I like their web site. A bit more cheesy in places than some ...or is it just done with a bit of humor? But very informative and helpful. Their descriptions are well-done, their advice about choosing models seems sound. Their prices seem quite reasonable, as are their turn around times.

Also, I'm not going to an IWB first. Maybe I'll add one, don't know yet.

My first pick is probably going to be a belt slide. The High Noon version I'd pick is the "Topless". Black, of course.

It gets very good reviews.

I'll suggest that you take a look at their IWBs. I'm NOT suggesting that all the others aren't fine quality. Clearly, they are.

It's just that the HN's seem to be attracting my attention most right now.

Please keep us posted about what you decide, por favor. :)

Easy on/off and spaced loops are somewhat contrary. Your best best will probably be loops or clips that don't require you to remove your belt.

Personally, I think it's a false economy to get a cheap one to try. Even if it turns out that you like the general idea (IWB, leather, offset loops) you'll probably end up buying a better version later. Buy the better one to start and, if you hate it, you'll probably lose less re-selling it than you would have spent on the cheap "test" holster.

As for the the better one to try? For leather I'd recommend a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. It's $100 and if you hate it you'll easily find a buyer selling it for $40-60. Heck, I'm happy with my kydex holster and I'd buy one at that price.

I use a Comp tac C.T.A.C. which ran me $70. It's kydex, but comfortable. I use either the V-clips or C-clips which are probably the hardest ones to remove. The standard clips are a bit easier.

I think you'll find you need a belt regardless. The steel Kahrs are heavy enough to drag your pants down without one. If you get a comfortable enough setup, holster and belt, you might find that you don't bother taking it on and off. Put it on in the morning, take it off at night. It works for me.

Well you are very correct in your thinking......the little Kahr is light years more comfy that the snub. Snubs put pressure of the cylinder directly under the belt line with MOST IWB's. The Kahr will carry flatter than most other guns when carried this way.

There are lots of great holster makers that do Kahr leather. I do them on a weekly basis. The VM2 is a vantastic holster that will spread the thickness and weight of the gun out resulting in wonderful carry.

Shoot well.
