I think this is the right place for this...

I'm looking for a non-leather belt that's not absurdly wide for everyday wear, but that's still supportive and capable of being used with a holster. So those "duty belts," with outsides and insides (which I don't quite understand anyway) are out.

Yes, I think you're looking for a rigger belt. Just about every nylon gear maker has one in their catalog. If you are looking for a very stiff belt, I'd recommend the Instructor's belt from the Wilderness or the riggers belt from SOE.

Personally, I use an Eagle belt. Brad Nelson over at Lightfigher stocks all of them. You can spend anywhere from about 10 bucks for a plain piece of nylon and a buckle to about $40 for one that I wouldn't hesitate to use for life support applications.

Check these nylon belts out. Sturdy with style.

I totally recommend these 1.25-inch dress belts made of 2 layers of nylon with a polymer stiffener inside. I have two, one for OWB carry and a larger size for IWB. One I've had for a couple of years and it still looks new. I've worn it nearly every day and it's as stiff as the day it was new.

These are serious belts, will easily hold up a full-size .45 and looks good with jeans, slacks or a suit.

another vote for wilderness. don't fool with the followers/imitators.

Wilderness here too. They come in 1.5 or 1.75, both can be had with a plastic insert to make them stiffer, but they work well without it(I have both types). Best part of these is, they are adjustable through out, without having to hit a "notch", so Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners are easily taken into account. :)

Wilderness 5-stitch

in 1-1/2 inch is plenty stiff. The plastic insert may be TOO stiff and tend to dig in a bit.

I have both the black and khaki belts - the black is more appealing for day-to-day wear - the velcro section is black also and is not as obvious. On the khaki colored belt, the velcro section is lighter colored and stands out a bit more.

Great belts for casual wear - look nice w/ my Robbins 5.11's and are great with both IWB and strong-side holsters.

The 1.5" buckle is propotional to the belt. Overall its 2 1/8 x 2 7/8.
Its not overly big, about the size of a normal buckle, maybe just a little bigger. It is pretty heavy though. Would make a good weapon if needed.

Only one belt to pick - Wilderness. All of mine are CSM's, but my next one will probably be a 5 stitch. With the nylon they are using, it's probably plenty stiff.

The only down side I've discovered over the years is the finish on the buckle coming off. The buckle then leaves a little rust mark on the shirt you've got tucked in.

Stay tuned to their website. In the next month or so, they'll be producing a limited number of NP3'd buckles. I'll be changing my buckles out when they do.

London Bridge Trading Co.
They are online now. You can buy their stuff at lightfighter too.

I bought a riggers belt for use in the military over 10 years ago and it has a lifetime warranty. I only used it much back when I bought it but it was good and I trust London Bridge products as they're used by Marines and SEALS and other branches that were local to the shop in VA at the time I served. They did a lot of custom stuff.

I still have the belt and I'm going to use it for attaching a holster should I shoot competitively this year. I bought it originally as a second change belt for hasty rappeling if needed.

I've been wearing a Wlderness 1.5" with the plastic insert daily for several years. I carry a Glock 23 always. It's the most comfortable belt I've owned. Excellent quality and service. Recommended

I've heard a lot of good things about the Wilderness 5 stitch lately.

I'm going to have to order one, to see if they are as good as everyone says they are.

I'm wearing a 1.5 inch WIB right now with the plastic insert...

The plastic sometimes causes the belt to be "too stiff"... If it were me... I'd wear a 5 stitch everyday... and a plastic insert for the range/IDPA/3 gun... but I wear the plastic insert everyday... no real complaints...

That said... buy one from The Wilderness... you can't really go wrong.

Shmackey - go for the 5-stich 1.5" Instructor belt from The Wilderness Tactical. You really can't go wrong with this one. I hear they're starting to make O.D. "green" ones soon, too.
