help me pick new rifle in 223 for under or around

Used Mini-14. You can get one for around $400 in excellent shape. Its reliable, accurate enough (0.5-4 moa, depending on model/date) and it has its heritage buried deep within the realm of the M1 and M14. Had the Stoner design (the M16/AR15) come out a few years later or if Ruger had designed the Mini a few years earlier, the Mini would be the service rifle of the last 45 years.

I would either get a used Mini-14 or a Siaga. I went and looked at a Siaga the other day and really like the way it felt in my hands.

Mini-14 are heavy for a carbine. I have a bull barrel Handi Rifle with a 3x9x 50mm scope and it is a shooter. weighs about 7 lbs.
