What an interesting list of possibilities we have assembled. What I take to be the OP's quest is something like a MKIII, but with a bit more beef to the grip.
If that's the case a Ruger 22/45 would certainly do, as would a S&W 22A.
My personal favorites are a Mitchell Trophy (I didn't stay away from them), a Savage Striker (not exactly a pistol), and mostly my Dan Wesson.
But asking which pistol is best is kinda like asking what girl is the prettiest. You're gonna get alot of different answers, some of which may not make any sense to you.

BTW, Jeanine Garofalo, see I told you some of them wouldn't make any sense.

I'll add my name to those who say pretty much anything by Ruger, Browning, or Smith & Wesson, in no particular order. I do admit to being a Ruger fan.

Just find one you like and you'll most likely be happy with it.

Oh. If in the course of your travels, you happen to run up on a Dan Wesson 22 (D/A revolver). Grab it. You'll be glad you did. They don't make 'em anymore, and that's a shame. Dan Wesson is the one at the bottom. (The Ruger Bearcat and the Single-Six aren't bad either.)

....They also come in STAINLESS

There was a time when Dan Wesson was the only "stainless" .22 revolver on the market, now they're gone and others have filled the niche.

I don't think it gets a lot better than a Ruger Mk2 or 3 or a Buckmark. These are often recommended by folks and for pretty good reason IMHO. They're lots of .22 for the money. I have a Mk2 now, love the thing, very accurate and reliable. I am sort of apprehensive about ever field stripping it.......but I clean it assembled and avoid that. LOL

...Rembrandt, What are those rings on your DW? I need some.

Rings are Warne quick detach. Had the rib milled down, drilled and tapped for Warne bases. Scope can be removed quickly and open sights used if needed. So as to not affect the resale value/originality, I bought a second shroud.

I sure do like the looks and the reputation of the S&W Model 41 but since I don't own one and have never fired one I won't recommend it.

Do you already have a 1911? If you already know you love the 1911 form factor then, for sure go with the Kimber. If you already have a 1911 you might want to look into getting a Marvel conversion kit. I have the Kimber conversion kit and think it's OK too.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

My dad has a S&W 41. It's a great gun but his is picky with ammo and won't cycle with a lot of bulk stuff.

+1 Rembrandt

Tried all the others. Auto-wise, there can be only one:
