So i have approx 550-575$ to spend and I want another gun.Shotguns are out as well as rifles.Iv'e kinda narrowed it down to a few choices but I'm always open to other suggestions.Currently I would like to buy a entry level 1911 and or a 357 revolver. This gun would be mainly range use and not concealed carry.I was thinking a Rock island 1911 Gi for 499$ with lifetime warranty thru thr gun store,Cimmeron 1911 parkerized for 469$,Cimmeron 1911 with High polished blue finish for 529$,or a ruger sp101 357mag for 539$?I would like a metal gun this time and prefer a 45 or 357.Thanks.

Have you considered a single-action in .357?

Help me spend my money.

Dang! I love spending OPM! :D

Have you considered a single-action in .357?

I'm not a huge advocate of single-action revolvers,,,
But I went to budsgunshop.com and searched for .357 revolvers.

There were a ton of them for less than $500.00,,,
A 6.5" Ruger Blackhawk for $473.00 might be just the thing.

You said:
This gun would be mainly range use and not concealed carry.

Since it will be a range toy,,,
I just wondered if this is something you had considered.

Anyways, happy gun hunting.

You can find RIAs a bit cheaper than this even... I bought a GI for $319 shipped from KyGunCo a year ago... FS tactical was $349 shipped.

Spend the rest on ammo. :)

I did some searching online and found with the transfer fees, etc the cost would be about $500 for the rock;basically the same as the local gun store minus the gun stores %100 warranty.I did see springfield GI 1911 locally but costs push it in the 625$ range unfortunately. The auto ordidance is also in my range but Iv'e read some bad reviews about them.

If you're going to pay $500, save a hundred bucks and get a ruger, Springfield, or Colt 1991 IMO. They had a screaming deal on the colt recently.

Another high quality, overlooked 1911 is the taurus, but it's pricey enough it cuts out buying both. I also would suggest a taurus 66 revolver.

Don't overlook the Para 1911s. If Clark Custom Guns is right, the frames are better.

I'd get a .357 revolver, myself. Less trouble than a 1911.

After talking with the wife, she's ok with me spending around $625.I don't know if that gets me in the range of a rem or springfield 1911 thou.Easily enough for a ruger sp101 with a 3in barrel.Still want a 1911 or revolver and looking at options.

With your new price point you could get an SA 1911 MilSpec, an RIA 1911 Tactical, a Metro Arms 1911 Classic, or an RIA 1911A1 Match. Think you're still a bit under what you would need for a Remington or a Ruger but you might want to consider used as well. Let us know what you decide on.

a suggestion..

based on my experience, I'd stay away from a GI model 1911,as a first 1911..
only because the sights are so small, they make shooting it more challanging than need be..a RIA 1911 Tactical, would be a better choice, as it's got many extras you'll later end up spending $ on..

I bought my frirst RIA 1911, a GI model in 9mm, 'cause the tactical model hadn't come out @ the time & I wanted a 1911 in 9mm..

I was going to convert a Colt SS Govt model from 45 to 9mm, but after looking @ all the parts I'd have to buy (Slide, sights, barrel, mags,) quickly decided a RIA GI for $400 was the way to go. It (the RIA) 1911 was (is) a great bargain,
but I hated the factory (GI sights) started buying parts..springs, trigger, grips, and finally bit the bullet & had gunsmith install decent sights..

After having gun refinished (gunsmith had a refinish sale) adding they $ I had in it, almost doubled the cost..an $800 RIA ? !..oops.

I still like RIA pistols, great for the price, but I'd suggest saving ("investing")
a little more & going for a Springfield Range Officer , in 45 acp or 9mm.

They're really nice pistols you don't need to "upgrade".. IMHO..

forgot to mention..

If you haven't used Gunwatcher.com to look @ prices for particular firearms, they're a good resourse, & can save you money.

Out of Curiosity, I just checked S/A R.o. prices..

SPRINGFIELD 1911-A1 RANGE OFFICER 45ACP PARKERIZED
$719.99 Sportsman Outdoor

Springfield Armory PI9129LP 1911 Range Officer 9mm 5" 9+1 Cocobolo Grip Black PI91 $720.00 Discount Guns

both sellers have free shipping on these pistols..:)

I have fired my stepfather's Rock Island 1911, and was impressed at how smooth the action was. He was issued a 1911 in the Army Reserves, and he loves his RI .45.

But . . .

Nothing, no nothing is more versatile than a .357 Magnum revolver. You can shoot targets, varmints (4- and 2-legged), even hunt with it. You can shoot .38 Specials. You can shoot target loads indoors with plastic bullets. I mean, the list is endless. I am personally saving up for one to do all those things (well, hopefully not shoot 2-legged varmints!) myself.

Another vote for a BARGAIN sub-$400 Rock Island 1911. I'm kinda annoyed at myself for snapping these up when they were a BARGAIN at $400-450 given they are now around $350...

Deals like this won't stick around forever.
