BTW - I do get -.001 to + .002 variation in overall length going thru my process. The reasons above must account for that.

But I'd have be much longer to have the case mouth start contacting the flare on the SS rod before it bottomed out

that's exactly what i was getting at. web thickness variation accounts for your issue.

.003" max spread in case length is pretty standard for the possum hollow trimmers.
