I am trying to compile a list of any political figure who has been shot and/or killed by firearm. It doesn't matter who as long as they are involved in politics, political influence or an actual office/positition of power.

So far I have

JFK
Robert Kennedy
Abraham Lincoln
Ronald Reagan
James Brady
James Garfield
Czar Nicholas II and family
Martin Luther King
George Wallace
Benito Mussolini
Alexander Hamilton

Thanks for your help.

Nicolai Chaushesku (was executed by firing squad)
Adolf Hitler (shot himself)
Yitzhak Rabin (shot by a Jewish extremist)

Adolf Hitler was supposed to be included in my original post. I didn't forget him. I just neglected to include him.

I am unsure as to wether I should include Lee Harvey Oswald since he was shot and killed and his shooting and killing of JFK certainly affected American politics. Any opinions?

Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh 1868
"
"Royal Prince Alfred", was shot in the back by a mad Fenian. The bullet was stopped by a double layer of India rubber in the braces the Duke used to keep his trousers up (Americans call these things suspenders). The two straps crossed at the impact point, and stopped the Duke being badly injured."

Indira Ghandi: Killed by her own bodyguards.
Mahatma Ghandi: Killed by a muslim seperatist.
Anwar Sadat: killed by his own army after a fatwa by the first world trade centre bomber.

Let's see, you didn't include Hitler....because he wasn't political? You don't know whether to include Oswald even though his work influenced politics? If you are setting up the criteria for who you want to include, then you should know if folks meet your criteria or not.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife - the start of WWI
Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto
Spencer Perceval 1812 - only assassinated Brit Prime Min.
George I of Greece, King of the Hellenes

Just do a google search on assassinations and you will find plenty

Such is not the case and I do not appreciate your attitude problem. Hitler was simply forgotten, not excluded.

You don't know whether to include Oswald even though his work influenced politics?

That's right. Because he wasn't actively trying to influence politics. He was simply killing JFK.

I hadn't really though of a certain criteria per se, other than the fact that it involved people, politics and gun shots. Geez dude, don't grouch at me for not getting past those three essential items.

I find a poll of HighRoad members tends to be more thorough and faster than looking through 5 gajillion pages of results from google.

teddy roosevelt

When? I can't find that info. Was it when he was fighting in Cuba? He died from a blood clot problem.

My book says that M. Gandhi was killed by a Hindu who opposed Gandhi's respect and kindness to Muslims.

10/14/1912 bullet entered his chest-saved by a 50 pg speech and eyeglass case- continued on and gave his bullmoose speech while still bleeding

You asked for help for something you could find with a google search and then say bizarre things.

I didn't forget him. I just neglected to include him.

He wasn't forgotten, now he is. Which is it?

oh and nicolas was shot, but the women were killed by bayonets. they had the royal jewels hidden in their corsets which blocked the bullets.

Looks to me like we are stretching the definition of the term “political figure.” I don’t think that John Lennon, James Brady, and Martin Luther King Jr really qualify as none of them had held publicly elected office. I mean look I vote, have contacted various office holders concerning legislation so does that make me an activist and thus a “political figure?” I don’t think so.
