I have been reloading straight walled pistol cases for a while now and would like to start reloading for my AR. I have a Hornady lock n load progressive press, a scale and a caliper. I need the rest of the stuff.

This is what I'm looking at:

Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gage Modified Case 223 Remington
Product #: 290405

Hornady Cam-Lock Case Trimmer Kit
Product #: 315831

Ramshot TAC Smokeless Powder 8 lb
Product #: 350270

L.E. Wilson Case Length Headspace Gage 223 Remington
Product #: 456614

Hornady Lock-N-Load Overall Length Gage Automatic/Lever Action
Product #: 479963

Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Progressive Press Shellplate #16 (17 Remington, 204 Ruger, 223 Remington)
Product #: 738344

Hornady Chamfer and Deburring Tool 17 to 45 Caliber
Product #: 742818

RCBS X-Die 2-Die Set 223 Remington Small Base
Product #: 807582

I have some small rifle primers already. I just need some bullets. Any recommendations where to start? It's a 16" 1:9 twist. I was thinking some 69g

Good? No? What did I miss? What should I change?

These do not have to be small basethe standard X dies should work fine. RCBS X-Die 2-Die Set 223 Remington Small Base
Product #: 807582
You need a way to lube the inside of the case neck, plus lube. Are you sure you want that powder & 8lbs of it?? Read everything here > http://www.6mmbr.com/223Rem.html

Have you checked prices elsewhere. Lately, Midway has been dabbling in the "designer" price range.

I use TAC for loading my AR and am quite fond of it. I usually stick with the 55 gr bullet though so maybe someone else will chime in with the experience with the heavier bullets.

I also agree you probabaly don't need the x Die's unless you have a tight chamber.

I also have a LNL AP, reload for pistol and have recently have just purchased and started reloading for .223. Below is list of what I spent my half of the tax return on with Mfg and their part number. I have highlighted in red what I thought are the must have's. If you can afford it, spend the money on the Giraud Trimmer, it is worth the money.

If you have a good set of calipers to measure case length and OAL. I would wait to purchase the other Hornady gages. I bought and used them and find myself just using a standard set of 6" calipers for my measurements.

My next purchase is definitely going to be another powder measure to simplify the changeover from rifle to pistol.

Good Luck and Happy Reloading

Thank you for the responses. In regard to the dies, I would like the x dies so I don't have to trim every time I resize. As far as the small base part, it seems there is not much difference between the regular x dies and the small base. The small base are just a bit tighter, which is preferred when reloading for the AR. The other factor is that the regular x dies are out of stock right now.

On the part of the tac, it seems that it would be a good do all powder for what I want to do. It can handle everything from the 55g up to the 69g. It meters consistently, and it's available.

Good thinking on the bushings. I think I have a couple extras already.

I added a tin of imperial sizing wax to the order.

Now, I don't have personal experience with any of this. This is just what I have talked with other people, and have read about. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations otherwise, I would truly appreciate it.

Thank you.

And I would suggest the companion tool to the press, the feeler gage.
