What's the trick to adjusting windage on a Mosin? Do you try to bend the front sight post? shift the entire front sight assembly? something in between?

I bought a '42 Mosin 91/30 a few days ago and shot it for the first time this morning. At 50 yards, I shot softball sized groups that were centered a couple of inches high and about 3-4 inches to the right of my point of aim. I was very happy with the way it shot but I would like to make a slight windage adjustment.

Thanks.

The front sight is attached to a dovetail groove on the sight base which is orthogonal to the barrel axis. To adjust windage you just drift the front sight assembly, either with a hammer and brass punch or with a special tool (which costs 50 bucks or so). Elevation adjustment requires removing and modifying the front sight assembly, so Kentucky windage is easier.

Get a Mojo sight, replace the original rear sight and you can make all the elevation and adjustment corrections you want.

Depends on which WAY you need to adjust it, i got lucky and just filed mine down (Hey, the thing was 70.00)....

As far as windage, a brass drift punch and hammer, i was thinking of making a homemade site tool with a small C-clamp, but the windage was dead on on mine.
Still wondering if one could be made that way.

Thanks for the info. I'm fine with the elevation. I just want to move the impact point a few inches to the left. A hammer and punch it shall be.
