I removed the front A2 sight on my AR 15 and replaced with a clamp on gas block with flip up sight.

Test fired and the gas function works fine but windage is a bit off. I had to adjust my real Mbus sight all the way to the left to get point of impact to match point of aim. So it is shooting about 4" to the right (this is only at 25 yards as I just want to get on paper and windage should not matter, elevation was actually almost perfect.

So the dense question is: I adjust the gas block a tad to the LEFT, correct??

I know elevation is the opposite but never adjusted a front for windage,

Is there no easy way to do this or just trial and error and messing with it?? It's kinda just eyeballing it. I do not have a laser bore sight but find those next to useless anyway.

Thanks

for front sight adjustments, move the sight *opposite* direction on both windage & elevation. To move point of impact right, move sight left....

You can look thru the bore to bore-sight the gun. I put mine on a vice and do this. It gets me very close at 100 yards. I simply pick a point in the distance and then find the same point with my sights. No bore sight needed.

Point at aimpoint on target if you hit right move front sight right. Front sight moves toward the last hole you made up ,down , right left move front sight toward last hit.
Rear sight away from last hit

You must always move your front sight in the OPPOSITE direction you want the point of impact to move.

A tiny bit of movement is all it takes to move the point of impact a lot.

I knew that was true for elevation but windage also?? Yes, just a tiny bit,

Not disagreeing, just confused. Damn now I have to go mess with it again.:uhoh:

Thanks, I supposed I could have searched.

This thread I like this answer and can remember it (I think);)

Concerning front sight adjustment, it's easier for me to remember to "chase the bullet." That means if the rifle is shooting to the left, I chase the bullet, and move the front sight to the left.

Or just do the opposite what you'd do with the rear sight.

The front sight on AR rifles are adjustable for elevation only. All windage adjustments are made with the rear sight. If you are shooting to the left then adjust rear sight to the right or to the left if shooting to the right.

NO please read my first post, it is a clamp on gas block with flip up sight. It is just eyeballed to get the gas holes aligned. The hole in gas block is bigger than the hole in the rifle so there is wiggle room. that can rotate 360 around the barrel.

I've clamped several front sights to barrels and this is the procedure I use.

Adjust the rear sight to mechanical center.

Mount the upper receiver with BCG removed into a gun vise.

Tape a piece of white butcher paper to a wall.

Draw a plumb vertical line on the butcher paper with a Sharpie and a level.

Place a level on the upper receiver rail. Adjust the upper receiver in the gun vise until it's level.

Look thru the bore at the line - move the gun vise until the line goes from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock.

Look thru the rear sight aperture and adjust the front sight on the barrel until the line on the paper aligns with the center of the post when you align the sights. When you accomplish this then tighten the front sight fasteners.

After tightening verify, when you align the sights, the line on the paper aligns with the center of the center of the front sight post.

Take it to the range and sight-in. Windage shouldn't require more than a few clicks.

Good luck!

Sounds like a great idea. I will have to figure out were I can do that. Limited space in the garage. I have a small cheap gun vise not sure if it will hold the upper though.

Not entirely clear on moving the vise from 12 to 6?? I understand a straight line up and won but how to keep the vise from moving left or right??

I can try in the living room when the Boss is away:D
