I have a S&W 610 10mm handgun. I bought a Warne scope mount, rings and scope to use. Since the gun does not have predrilled holes, the local gunshop sent it to a machinist they use to have it done. The Warne mount allows iron sights to remain on the mount so you can use them or scope at your choosing. So the original rear sight doen't fit the mount, the machinist, with the shops permission modifies it to fit, at my expense. I didn't want this done as if I take the mount off later I would need the rear sight as it is. I bought the correct rear sight for the mount. So I suck it up. I take the gun with scope out to a range outside and can't hit c--p. So I take it to the shop for it to be bore sighted. The owner takes it in the back and brings it out later and says he can not adjust it to center, that the recticle is all the way over. He states the mount is off OR the scope is bad. I take it to the back range and without the scope, adjust it to 20 yards. This requires the windage to really be WAY to one side. It's off bad and gets worse the farther away it gets. I take it up front and speak to the head rep and he says IF it is off, they may have bought a gun (?). There is no way this can be fixed as I know without REAL work. Now, I have a gun that can not be returned to orginal condition. The scope, mount rings are no use to me with this gun. The gun cannot be replaced for what I paid for it (I bought it for $400.00 and they post for $600..plus, its a 6 1/2 inch barrel). What do you suggest I require of the shop? I think they should compenstae me for the cost of the gun PLUS anything I lose on the scope, rings, and mount. Do you think they should buy the WHOLE ball of wax? Thanks ahead of time. This burns me up bad...I love this gun.

It kind of depends on if you want the gun fixed to be usable or want another one to replace it.

My guess is,the mount isn't centered over the barrel. It may or may not be centered on the slide, which may be noticeable with a visual inspection. It may be off at the front or the rear, which should be noticable too (Since the error gets larger as the range increases,I think it is off on one end instead of just offset to one side).

If the mount isn't centered,it could be reinstalled with a new set of holes,or oversize holes in the slide to offset it correctly.(That is the first thing I would check to try to repair it). This way it only has one set of holes in the slide.

I don't understand why the shop didn't call to get approval before modifying your sight or mount,I know I wouldn't have without calling you first.

I hope this helps,Robert.
