I just picked up a Savage 24E-Deluxe in .22mag/20ga. I think it's a 1960s era gun (not sure). The .22mag barrel is grooved with a 3/8" dovetail to accept rings that clamp directly to the barrel. Who makes the best .22 rings for this application? Anybody else mounted a scope on an older 24? How'd you do it?

I may decide to shoot it as is, but thought I'd ask about the scope anyway. The question is "How do I do it best?" Not, "Should I do it?" I know that it is unlikely that the barrels will shoot to the same point of aim (haven't shot it yet, but will test for this).

Anyone have any experience with the BKL 260 scope mount? This is a 4" long mount for 3/8" dovetails with six clamping screws. I think these are mostly used on magnum air rifles. I'm looking for something that will handle the recoil of the 20ga without slipping. And I'd prefer not to have to drill and tap the .22mag barrel to accept a stop screw.

Make sure you get a shotgun or airrifle scope and not a rimfire or centerfire scope because the recoil impulse of the shotty is different from the impulse of a rim/centerfire and you will snap the recticle
