I Was At The Range A Few Days Ago With My New Mosin Nagant Carbine And Was Trying To Sight It In. I Started Out At 50 Yards And Fired Three Shots From A Bench Rest And I It Was Shooting About 8 Inches High And Maybe 1 Inch Right Judging From The One Shot That Was On The Target The Other Shots Were Not Even On The Target So I Went Back And Fired Another 3 Shots And Then Went And Checked The Target And It Was Still About 7 Or 8 Inches High So I Decided To Bring The Target In To 25 Yards And Then Fired Another 3 Shots And Then Checked And It Was Still Firing About 8 Inches High So I Fired Another 3 Shots And It Was Still Shooting High So I Decided I Would Go Ahead And Take It Out To 100 Yards And I Then Fired Another Three Rounds And It Was Shooting About 7 Or 8 Inches High So I Then Fired Another 3 Shots And It Was Still About 7 Inches High I Had The Sights Set For 100 Meters So I Know That Was Not The Problem I Also Do Not Believe That It Was Not Me Causing The Rifle To Be That Inaccurate As I Was The Captain Of My Schools Marksmanship Team This Rifle Is In Good Condition And As Far As I Know Had Been Unfired Prior To Me Having It As It Was An Unissued Soviet I Was Wondering If Anyone Had Any Ideas Of How To Fix This Problem Or If Anyone Else Has Had A Simialiar Problem And How It Was Fixed Any Suggestions Would Be Very Much Appreciated

Not a uncommon problem. I took a nail that was the same diameter as the post sight, cut it to be higher than the post sight and epoxyed the nail to the rear of the post. Been there for years.

8" high at 25 yards.
8" high at 50 yards.
8" high at 100 yards.

I didn't realize that the 7.62x54R was that flat. Am I missing something?

Did you change the elevation setting at each distance, or leave it the same all three times?

I'm Not The Grammar Police, But I Find It Interesting That You Capitalize Every Word In Your Sentence. I Don't Know What To Make Of It, But It's Interesting....

I think there's a thread from yesterday covering this very topic - scroll down a bit. I'm picking mine up on Thursday and am looking forward to the results....

the mosin is meant to shoot at targets several hundred yards out. shooting at targets 50 yards in will result in high shots. others just have bad sites.

if you plan on doing all or most of your shooting close in you will need to build up the front site with some epoxy or other filler.

I Did Not Change The Elevation Settings And I Am Just Guessing About The 8 Inches I Can Not Not Remember For The Exact Amount Off Target But You Are Right The 7.62 X 54r Is Not That Flat Shooting

But I Find It Interesting That You Capitalize Every Word In Your Sentence

Because Every Single Word Is Very Important!! And Punctuation Is Not!!

Most rifles of this vintage were designed with the idea of 300 yard battle zeros....heck, why else would the sights go out to 1200 or more yards. You may need a new front sight post...how tall is yours? Mine is about .30".

Shoot Targets That Are Farther Away. Back Up Far Enough And The Gun Will Be Right On.
