I want to reload .40 S&W, .357 mag, and 9mm .. Is there something I am missing or is there no die set for these calibers in that list? Which should I order?

Looking at that list, I get the impression that they are trying to unload some of the less popular die sets they make and "add value" to their kit, which by the way is the way I started and I am very happy with it.

Oppps, looks like Steve had a better answer before I finished typing. I will go insert my foot in my mouth now.

they are not unpopular since when was a 30/06 30-30 or 7mm remington mag unpopular. its a good deal but if you do not have a rifle then just purchase the anniversary kit and order a set of dyes. if you order the catalog from lee direct there is a special offer to buy a press with set of dyes of your choice too. just go to there site and request a catalog mailed to your house.
same time if you buy direct from lee its usually cheaper as the shipping is dirt cheap.

WRONG! Lee sells dirrect to you for RETAIL Gunshops will beat their prices, internet sites like Midway will beat the gunshop prices. Go ahead and order dirrect from lee if you enjoy wasting money buying at retail prices.

The auction seams a little high. Look at midwayusa.com or cheaperthandirt.com or cabelas.com or sportsmanguide.com

I probably misspelled one of these.

Read the sticky at the top of the forum for newbie reloaders. If I were you, I think I'd make up my own list of stuff after doing some reading to learn about reloading. Buy yourself a book or two off the list of books in the sticky and read them BEFORE you spend money on equipment.

BTW, if you're wanting to load mostly pistol calibers, you would be better served buying a Turret press, not a single stage. I suggest you take a look at a lee classic turret press from Kempf's gunshop. they have a kit at a reaosnable price that includes a good pistol die set.

Regards,

Dave

I've seen those "deals" on Ebay, not really saving anything and I think it costs you about $15-$20 buying it elsewhere. BUT...

He has 2 basic auction types, one that lists rifle dies only and one that lists PISTOL dies only, you were just looking at the wrong auction for your intended purposes. ;) He also has the same basic offer using Turret presses, too if I remember right.

Try Midway

I had the Lee Classic Turret kit on order from Cabela's. The Feb. delivery turned into March so I cancelled it. Priced the same components out at Midway and they were only a bit more than the kit price at Cabelas ($150) so I ordered them from Midway plus a few other things. Here's what I got:

1 Classic Cast Turret Press
1 Large and small primer feeder
1 Pro Auto Disk Powder Measure
1 Lee Safety Scale
1 Dies, set of 4 carbide (.38 Special)
1 Primer pocket cleander
1 Modern reloading manual
1 Powder funnel
2 Reloading Tray

Total cost was $214 + shipping. Price is much better than direct from Lee. I'm sure Lee doesn't discount so as to not piss off thier distributors.

not necesarily. i have found that the shipping from places like midway to be kinda up there. Where as buying from lee direct is cheaper on the shipping. kinda is like a wash in a way.

Not even close to "a wash" - the only things expensive to ship with Midway are bullets and ammo - they go by weight while Cabela's calculates shipping by price with a max cap ... anything else will ship reasonably from Midway and, with specific reference to Lee, be way cheaper.

I'd re-visit and think hard about the turret press. Loading pistol on a single stage is way slow and way boring. It may be a little more money for the turret, but IMO you'll know why it's worth it when you start loading.

Also, you can keep your dies set in the turret heads and just swap them when you want to change calibers.
