I plan to put a Williams WGRS receiver sight on a new Remington 700 I have coming in. Does the factory rear sight assembly come off fairly easily or will a smith be needed ? I'm hoping to use the factory front bead as I am with my Win 94 peep set up. Many thanks for your help.

The sight should come right of, it might be held in place by blue loctite (or equivalent). If the screws are tight heat them with a soldering iron first. The two filler screw from the receiver will fill in the holes from the rear sight. Just use the correct size screw driver.

I took the rear sight off of mine with no problems, so that I could mount a scope. Was easy. I decide , just so it would be a little cleaner looking, to take the front site off as well. One of the screws is extremely uncooperative and I end up putting about a .75" scratch down the side of the barrel. This is an ADL with the "black paint" finish that I bought to use. Had it been a nice blued finish instead I would have been a little more upset.
