Hi all,

I would like to hear peoples opinions on this. I’m in the position to purchase a Star Firestar 40. The price is $259. I’m thinking the gun might make a nice CC piece because of it’s compact and slim-line size. I know it’s heavy, but I carry a lot of weight in my pockets anyway, and I figure the weight should help control recoil. I have found a holster that it will work in, and think I may even be able to find others for it. The main thing about this gun is that it points better for me than any other gun I’ve looked at (Glocks, Kahr, Kel-Tec, J-frame). The gun just seems to fit me very well, and I’m thinking that that’s one of the best reasons to get it.

The cons I know of are that there are limited parts, and I’ve also heard that the safety tends to go off too easily on these weapons (although this one seems pretty positive). I also know that there probably aren’t many holsters out there for them, but have discovered that the holster for another current firearm will fit the Star. Warranty obviously won’t be an issue since the company no longer exists, but as solid as the gun is I don’t expect problems.

Is there anything about this deal that I haven't considered?

I carry a Firestar 9mm X 19 M43. If you can put two boxes of ammunition through it without a malfuction of any kind... Your good to go. I find that even for its weight it carries comfortably...

The company still exists...Only in Spain though...

I own a Firestar M43 and a Star Model 30. Neither has ever had a stoppage and both will feed any ammo I've ever run them. They are each sort of like a little cunk of pig iron and not the most finely finished guns on the market. They just shoot very well.

Bushmaster,
Are you saying that your Firestar isn't very reliable?

I have a Firestar M40 and use it for CCW. It is one of the most accurate pistols that I own and I haven't had any problems/failures with it. I carry mine in an IWB holster and haven't had any problems with the safety.

Firestar M-40

I have one and it shoots as well as my full size Kimber series I.
They are an awsome gun and are built like a tank but I have
decided mine is to heavy to carry. I now carry a J-frame.
A few years ago I took my M-40 to a gun show to try to
find a holster for it and had a dozen offers to buy it.
Saddly parts are hard to come buy and the prices have fallen drastically.
I listed mine on here a few weeks ago and and only had 2 decent
offers and they wanted me to ship it, no local offers and I was
asking 200 less than offered 3 years ago.
Wife said she wanted me to keep it because it is the only one she likes.
She said If I wait a month she would let me buy the P3AT I was looking
at without selling the Firestar.

Did you find a holster for it? I was looking at the holsters and discovered that a Don Hume JIT Slide (for the Kahr PM9) fits it.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
