Question about a Kel Tec

I’m looking for a small pocket/always gun and I’ve started looking at the Kel Tec line as a possible solution to my dilemma.

I’ve been intrigued by the new PF-9 but it’s a bit big in Kel Tec terms, but the P3AT seems to be a good little gun.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about the one, anyone have any good pics?

Anyone have any experience with the 10 round mags Kel Tec sells?

What about the laser site that’s made for them?

Good holsters?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Kel-Tec, a company that is long on ideas and short on execution. Every firearm I have purchased from them has needed a "fluff and buff" to ensure reliability. www.ktog.org has the procedures.

Since that statement has been said, I have been very pleased with my P3AT, the smallest production .380 pistol on the market. It's flat and very concealable. I use a Galco pocket holster for mine, but the Desantis holsters hold up better and are far cheaper.
The PF-9 is brand new, I'd wait a year or two on that one simply b/c it takes Kel-Tec a while to work out the bugs in their new guns. It's also the smallest producton 9MM pistol out there, so I am not sure where the comment of "it's a little big" comes from.

See if you can test fire a buddy's Kel-Tec and decide for yourself. I had the P-40, which was the smallest production .40 S&W pistol ever made, and it was the biggest POS pistol I have ever had the mispleasure of owning.

TFW, you can see the poll I started here; http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=218146, and this recent thread discussing the P3AT vs. the Bersa Thunder .380.

My personal P3AT has been rock solid reliable. There's just nothing else that small in a serious defensive pistol. Kel-Tec makes a great product in the US of A, and they stand behind it with their lifetime warranty.

I have 3 1 in 380 and 2 in 32. and all have been perfect. But these are close in pistols and when you start tryto make a hicap and lasor up you loose all the reasons you bought .Its lite conceals and has enough ammo to do the job. Keep it as comes and forget add ons .
Do a search here and other boards you question is almost a daily one. Must be a million posts on good and bad of KelTec.

I have every pistol Kel-Tec has made and I have had no problem with any of them. The P-40 and the P-357 Sig require a strong grip but no problems.

PF-9 on the left and P-3AT on the right.

My PF-9 and P-3AT shoot everything I have fed them with the exception of Wolf 380 ammo in the P-3AT.

The PF-9 fits in some of my pockets.

The P-3AT fits in all of my pockets.

The P-3AT kicks pretty hard, but is not a problem.

The PF-9 at 11 ounces, shooting full power 9mm is a hand full and follow up shots are a little slow, at least for me they are.

I am carrying 124 gr, Gold Dot +P for short barrels in the PF-9.

My P-11 has been reliable since the day it came out of the box 5 years ago. I know that might be the exception and not the rule. It's a little chunky in the grip but that helps with recoil. I don't carry it much anymore only because I've moved to a 3.5" 1911. Seven 230gr. slugs is just as if not more reassuring to me as 11 124gr. slugs. As for the mags, the one that came with the gun and two that I purchased in Kel-Tec packaging are all Mec-Gar and work just fine.

I have a 2nd generation P-3AT with an ArmaLaser and I carry it 24/7 in a SmartCarry holster.

The gun has be great. The only problem I had was with the extractor screw loosening, a little blue Loctite fixed that.

It now has over 1000 rounds through it and it feeds all the ammo I've tried very well except for Sellier and Bellot FMJ. This ammo has hard primers and I've had numerous failures to fire with it. They always fire the second time.

The other ammo I've shot is: Federal American Eagle FMJ. Winchester White Box FMJ, Remington Green Box FMJ, CCI Blazer Aluminum Cased FMJ, Santa Barbara TCMJ, Federal Hydra-shok JHP, and Speer Gold Dot JHP. As I said all shoot without a problem.

The ArmaLaser is very good also, especially in dim light.

The SmartCarry holster allows me to carry 24/7 in complete comfort.

Have both P3at and P-11. No problems with either. The P3at goes with me when nothing else will do. Currently using a Highnoon pocket holster.

I carry mine in a Don Hume JIT holster.

I had approx 3 failures with my gun in the first 300 rounds (about one every 75 rounds).....then the grip (plastic piece that the frame is pinned in) busted on mine.....clear thru the pins.

I sent it back.

Two weeks later I had it back (they picked up shipping both ways too).

Flawless so far in a little over 100 rounds.

I have no trouble getting COM hits with it out to 15 feet or so....its more accurate then you think. Just forget about the sights and point shoot the thing.

I paid $206 for mine thru CDNN....they are still in the current flyer but I dont know if they have them in stock.

I like it and would buy it again.....if you have problems they will take care of you.....but expect you MAY have a problem.

You cant get Glock reliability, SIG quality, micro machine size for the cost of a water pistol.....something gives sometime.
