Hey guys, I looked through the gun cabinet buried in my grandparent's house, and found this musket-looking gun. I know absolutely nothing about any pre-ww1 guns, so this is beyond me. written on the barrel is "REMV U81 CaL 140 3 U2". The two and the three are both upside down, and below i posted a picture of the reciever/action. I've tried to find another like it via google, to no avail. Help me out please? Thanks!

right? thats what im sayin! lol its in really good shape, hardly any rust, woods nice and shiny... I just need to know what the heck it is lol my first thought was it was maybe an Enfield from a ways before WW1 or something.

Without more pictures I would say it's relatively new 20-30 yr old commerical made muzzle loading rifle. Might be a CVA from the looks of the lock.

I also suspect that it is of modern manufacture. The trigger guard looks like the same one on my Spanish made Markwell Arms gun. Is the barrel 33" long, is it rifled or smoothbore. How about an overall length image of the gun?

CVA Mountain Rifle

Don't know if this will help or not but there was a thread way back in Sept. 5, 2009 by mickeydim468. He was trying to identify a rifle that looks a lot like the one that idrooney711 is asking about. The reason I kept that date is I have one that I started building from a kit 30-35 years ago and never got around to finishing it. If I remember correctly it said on the box that it was a CVA Mountain Rifle. And this one is 45 cal.

thats probably what it is. it looks to be in too good of shape to be older than 50 years. all i know is its been in the familys 250+ year old collection.
