Ok, I've got glocks, Sigs, a Kahr PM9, several shotguns and rifles. But, I don't have any revolvers or a 1911.

So, I'm thinking either a .357 revolver, 1911 or j frame revolver to be my next purchase. Maybe a Ruger GP100, S&W 1911 or S&W 642 in no particular order.

Suggestions?

Why limit your options? Get the 357 and the 1911. If I had to choose just one I would go w/ the SW1911PD with the scandium frame and CT grips in the 4".
Awsome little gun.

Maybe get em in order of price?

None of those guns are likely to be "banned" anytime soon.

I'd go-

357

38 airweight

then save your pennies...and get a NICE 1911...

Or. Use reverse logic, take the big hit now, buy the 1911 (what I'd likely do...I don't like to wait for best for last :) ). As money comes, get the gun easiest to carry, or the funnest to shoot.

If you got the cash, that is the best way to prioritize. Which are you most excited about? You already have defense/zombies/angry chinamen covered...

It will take you longer to learn how to shoot the double action revolver so I would start with that. I would start with the small carry gun because you allready have big guns in your stuff.

Next the 357 and because it is a good hunting round and you all ready have war guns I would get a 6 in barrell. Stay with the ruger or smith in the newer guns. (no locks though)

Last I would get the 1911. The best all around is the 5 inch gun but make sure you buy quality that will last. Read up on em so ya know for yourself what cost alot and jams and has poor customer service.

Pick up a pre-1982 pinned and recessed Smith & Wesson model 19 in .357 magnum, if you want a most excellent wheel gun.
Hard to disagree with. I did, and I'm glad I did. Next, get yourself a nice 1911.

The .357 revolver, in stainless, either a Ruger GP-100 or a S&W 686 with a 6" barrel. Although there are many guns better for any specific purpose, the .357 revolver can do just about anything one needs done with a firearm, with enough practice and a good variety of ammo.

1911. im a big fan of para ord. but just go with a 1911. Im not saying theres anything wrong with the 357 mag, in fact Ive read that in the recorded history of the round for law enforcement 97% of the time the first shot is the last shot. I just love 1911's

well i chose the revolver so now im in the boat of saving for a nice 1911
i would say get the 1911 then revolver only b/c i would buy the first then in like a week or two have the money for the revolver

Here's my long and semi-complicated technique for this exact same dilemma.

Most likely the 1911 you REALLY want is new, and they're going to continue making new ones. If the revolver(s) you want are still being manufactured, it doesn't matter, just buy whatever you are most excited to shoot right now. If you like really cool classic revolvers like me, save some money, set it aside, then save up and buy the 1911, all the while keeping your eyes peeled for those older S&W or Colt revolvers in really good shape, or for a good value, whatever you prefer.

It does require some patience (which SUCKS) but I keep telling myself its the smart thing to do. Plus you can blow that reserve money on ammo if the zombie apocalypse occurs.

This is all superceded by anything that may soon become illegal to buy, hence the mad dash for assault weapons in which I am currently partaking.

Every collection needs at least one 357 magnum revolver and a 1911...tough one. As an option, pick out the wheelgun & the 1911 you really like and get the one that you can get at the better deal on ;)
Must agree w/ bro Ala Dan...the S&W mod 19s are absolutely SWEET! and there are still some nice ones floating around at good deals ;)
