Usually I am happy about a new firearm purchase, but this time not so much. Thanks to New York State's Safe Gun Act I can no longer carry my gun of choice. There appears to be a shortage of Glock and Sig 7 round magazines:( I finally decided on a Kahr P45 as I can get 7 round magazines. Said gun arrived today but I am not sure what to feed it.

.45 ammo is hard to get in this area so I did a quick check of available ammo in my meager supply. What I came up with is Golden Saber Plus-p 185 grain or Hornady 185 Critical Defense. Does anybody have a suggestion what would be the better round to carry?

Thanks in advance.

I really like the Rem Golden Saber. It seems to shoot the best out of several of my 45s.

My favorites are Golden Saber, Gold Dot and Hydra-Shok all in 230 grain. You won't go wrong with any premium ammunition by any of the big name manufacturers.

What you have on hand should serve you well.

If you are anywhere near Rochester try Beikirch in east Rochester. I was able to get some federal hydra shok there. They have a huge supply and get shipments in every week. That said they are often bought out of the popular calibers for target loads at least.

Not to be a wise acre, but at the present time, in the present market, I'd say carry what ever you can get your hands on.

The +P GS stuff in .45 is toasty hot. If you can shoot it well enough in a gun that small, it's a solid choice.

Either round should be fine. Just be glad you can find ammo. Many of us cannot.
