My Son told me his XD was malfunctioning so I tested it out by loading two 13 round magazines with 230 Grain Remington FMJ. I fired all 26 rounds without a hitch. Then I loaded one magazine with 185 Grain Remington Golden Saber and the other with Hornady 185 Grain nylon tipped HP. Both rounds would lock the slide back with rounds remaining. I thought at first weak magazine springs but that didn't explain the FMJ firing perfectly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Maybe the different bullet profile is enough to activate the slide stop?

Just a W.A.G since Im not familiar with the two bullets that you mentioned.

I have the exact same platform (tactical model). The parent platform was a military pistol designed for FMJ.
Suggestions: disassemble and clean magazines, clean the mag well, and deep clean all internal moving parts ( especially the slide lock). If the spring doesn’t depress the slide lock versus the tension of the magazine follower the slide will lock open. For any auto that misfires first look at magazines, then clean internals very very well, then replace springs (both magazine and recoil).
My XD has over 6000 rounds since last failure.

I would have guess the same.

The Remington Golden Saber has a profile that has been known to interfere with slide stops. I've never shot the Hornady 185 Grain nylon tipped HP, but it looks pretty broad shouldered
