I know next to nothing about the hipowers, but have heard good things. The one that I have handled felt very nice and points well (gee go figure, a JB design feeling and pointing well, and all while looking good... Who'da thunk it), but having not shot one I am slightly skeptical. Also having just purchased a new Sig 229 with night sights, the fund situation is running a little low. So here's the question, do I buy a used FN or browning, or do I go with a new inexpensive one? Has any one had any experience with the Charles Daily HP's? If I buy used, what should I look for, which ones are better.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Fred

First of all, it's a "Hipower", which will help if you want to search google.

THE site for info is http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com
Mr. Stephen Camp got me started on them, it's related to the 1911 disease.

All I can say is that the Hipower is my favorite handgun, one in .40 lives on my hip and I trust it more than any other gun I've ever had to defend myself with.

For purchase, call CDNN http://www.cdnninvestments.com and see what they have in stock. They have new FN Hipowers, the best there are, for around $400. It's a deal you simply can't beat. Their selection is getting a little thin, get them while they last. Some of the clones are good, the FEG looks real good, a friend has one, but I don't think the Charles Daly's have too good of reputation. Buy the FN if at all possible, you'll be glad you did.

Search around and you will find a excellent used 9mm FN for under $450 or maybe even less. If you buy a clone for $300, eventually you'll want the real deal and end up paying more ($300 + used FN) in the long run then you originally planned. This does not include holsters, magazines, etc..... Do it right the first time and be done with it.

Aren't the Charles Daly Hi-Powers the same as the FEG clones?

I picked up one of those not long ago on AuctionArms for under $200, and it's a beautiful weapon. Much better finish than on the Argentine FM's, though those are nice, too, from what I've seen.

One thing about them--the instant you pick one up, you'll know if it's right for you. The Hi-Power fits my hand perfectly, balances beautifully, and shoots flawlessly.

And it's not a "Hi Power", "Hi" is slang used by my fellow Americans and means hello. The pistol is named the "Grande Puissance", which roughly translates to "High Power" in English.

However the CDNN price is absolutely the best. Why buy a clone when you can get the real thing for 400 bucks.

Go with a new HP Mk IIIs is you can find a good price.

Of all the versions of the HP I have handled, it has the smoothest action once you have the trigger safety looked at.

Also the newer cast frames are said to be more durable that the older forged frames since they are also designed for use with the 40 caliber HP.
