Help with Hornady Case Feeder

Now that I've finally tuned the basic press to work reliably, I added the case feeder today. What a huge monstrousity hanging in the air. I sure do miss my $11 Lee case collator.

Once I torqued down the allen bolts on the clutch hub, case are dropping.

A third of them upside-down.

That's WHEN they drop. It usually won't run even a quarter tube before a jam at the clear funnel at the top of the bowl. According to instructions for pistols, I left the bowl opening door all the way open. I'm doing 45gap.


I turned the motor on and cleared the drop tube about 20 times befoe giving up. It doesn't look like any adjustments I can make. I'm using the large pistol case feed plate.

Somebody shooting 45's w/ a Hdy case feeder, please help!

You shouldn't have problems with the casefeeder, especially on .45 ACP. I'd suggest calling Hornady. The casefeeder is essentially the same casefeeder Dillon sells, with all of the same crappy little glitches, but they do work. I'd call Hornady tech support on this one. You may have a defective part or something "not quite right."

I agree with Dave-call Hornady. I set mine up recently and have about 1000 rounds loaded using it and not one case upside down and not one jam.

Make sure the rims aren't hitting the edge of the clear funnel as they fall in. Some people have used a small, thin piece of cardboard to slightly close the opening in the feeder bowl on the opposite side of the sliding cover. That makes sure the cases drop directly into the funnel.

The case feeder will work much better if the press is mounted to a solid bench. If the cases drop fine when filling the tube initially then start getting turned upside down or jamming as you load, the feeder is getting moved around and they don't like that.

Wow, what service

In the less than a day and a couple of posts, my $255 case feeder went from being useless to fully 100% reliable and functional. Thanks everyone for helping, especially to 1911user for the idea on closing the opening. That was a 6-word sentence the manual should have included, or better yet, have an adjustable door on both sides of the opening instead of just one. Ran several hundred cases through the feeder and I am a man made whole again. Again, thanks for all the help.
