Hi. I saw Rock Island .45s new for 349 and a Norinco for the same price that is used. I don't know how to inspect a used 1911. Can anyone point me to a place that would give me a good list to follow?

Thanks

I did find a site with all of the info I need. Now, can anyone tell me what they would buy? What is better? The norinco or the RIA?

I'd say the Norinco is a better gun overall.

But...

Do a search and you'll see that some have serious barrel problems. 1911Tuner has covered this in depth. Usually a barrel swap is all that's needed. If it's been fired inspect the barrel lugs very closely.

The Rock Island is the same as an Armscor and the ones I have seen and fired were very good also.

Then there's the fact that new Norincos can't be imported into the US so the prices on the ones already here are going up.

The one I found looks real nice. I printed off instructions on how to take one down and where to look for problems. So, I am going to get a good look at it and try to determine if the barrel lugs and the slide has damage. If the slide is not damaged, at least I know I can just go ahead and replace the barrel to be sure it is a good setup. They are asking 350 for the gun. I think that is high, so I am going to offer 300.

Thanks for the link. Now I know exactly what to look for when I go back to the shop.
Thanks
