Should I avoid a Norinco?

'Rinco

Just a heads up. Anybody who has a Norinco that plans on custom touches with all the bells and whistles, I'll buy hammers, sears, thumb safeties, grip safeties, slidestops, extractors and barrels. PM me if you've got'em and we'll work out the details.

Cheers!

So what would you do to enhance a Nork.

Other than a little attention to detail and maybe a quick run at the poor man's trigger job, I wouldn't change anything except the short trigger and the arched mainspring housing...which is mainly a matter of preference.
Above all, don't swap out any of the small parts except the sear spring
when you clean up the trigger. Get a stock Colt sear spring and drop it in.
Most of the stock Norincos that I've run into ran like a racehorse. I can write up a few things that you can do to help insure reliablity, but most of it
is probably wasted on the guns.

The one area that most 'Rincos can stand to be better is in the accuracy.
Not that it's poor, but it could stand to be a little better unless you're carrying the gun purely for defense. In that respect, they're perfectly adequate for the task.

I don't want to hijack, but this is kinda on topic.
My only real complaints are the trigger, which was fine until I bought a Randall, and the sights, which might be fine for people with decent eyes.
Reliability is second to none and accuracy is all that I need it to be, I never shoot out past 50 ft and usually at about 25' cause that's all my eyes can handle.
And they are mainly a defense guns

Oh yeah...Forgot about them dinky sights. They could be better too.
Novak Lo-Mounts would be nice.

The trigger is pretty easy to address. Mostly prep and polish in the right
places...not the sear primary angle.

No hijack seen here, joab...Looked like it was right in line with the topic.
Most folks that ask a question like the one that opened the thread are
lookin' for all the information they can get on their pistol.

I'll do a post on the trigger work early tomorrow.

Luck!

I bought my NORINCO 1911 Compact for $225 about four years ago and I love it. The NORINCO is actually fitted tighter than my Colt 1991 and it was half the price.

Thanks Tuner
Helpful as always, we've spoken before on the 1911 forums. In particular about a 1911 I plan on building soon
and of course Norincos
