I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine with a barrel of .357. I tried using MBs 115 gr lrn and it leaded chamber to comp. .Walkalong suggested to use a bigger bullet. I just got in some MBs 125 gr in .358 dia. . All the books I have say the min. overall length is 1.125 with HP-38. Right I am at 1.050 with the lube groove at the end of the brass. If I go to 1.125 the lube groove will be out of the case. Any help would be great, as I can not find any XTPs or BERRYS IN MY AREA. I thought that this would be a good fit for my carbine.

Loads from Handloader Mag. 282.
124 gr. Oregon Trail cast RN, seated to 1.045.
Red Dot 3.0-4.0 gr
Titegroup 2.2-2.8 gr
Power Pistol 3.8-4.8
AutoComp 3.8-4.5
AA-2 3.0-3.5

The bullets were .356 dia and had a single lube groove. They were seated to the tangent. And they were fired from a 5" barrel. As usual, start low and work up.

I don't load for 9mm but I do load a .38 & .357 which it seems is what your bullets are made for. Do they have a crimp groove?. My guess is the nose profile is different, FP vs RN which would change the OAL. I am simply guessing, I have loaded 44-40 bullets for my .40 S&W and had to seat a little deeper than published data in order to taper crimp over the crimp groove.

Are you using the "smallball" MBC bullet or the "cone" or SWC? The "smallball" need to be seated deeper than other 125 LRNs in most people's experience. I have to seat mine to 1.088" or so to pass the "plunk test" in my pistols. I also have them sized to .358" to fit my .357" bore SIG and Beretta. They work great. I use starting to moderate charges.

My load is, cast 125 RN bullet casted from wheel weight alloy sized at .358, lubed with carnuba red lube, seated at 1.065 oal, on top of 3.8 grains of HP38, with Tula SP primers. I get around 1,050 fps using a chroney 15 foot from muzzle. This is a load that is safe in my gun, so you will need to work up the load. You may also check out Castboolits.gunloads. There are some members there that makes gas checks for plain base bullets. I have used some and they seem to work well.

They are the Cowboy #17 125 gr RNFP. I only saw these as the only .358 bullets that MB offers in the 125 gr. bullet. I tried to seat one round and to get the plunk test, I had under .100 to fit, it was right around .973. I believe that this is way to short to be safe. Yes they do have a crimp groove and they are for .38 special.

The RNFP OAL will be shorter than a bullet with a nose. That doesn't mean they are seated deeper, just that the bullet itself is shorter, hence the shorter OAL.

Measure the flat point bullet and a empty case. Add them together and subtract .973. This will tell you how much is in the case. Then do the same for a round nose bullet if you have any. This will give you an idea of where you need to go with the load. If you dont have any 125 grain RN, pm me and I could help you out.
