Hello everyone. I need some help identifying an old USMC marked tool and I figured there are plenty of Marines running this site that could help out. At first I thought it was same type of small hand saw but the tip is all wrong and teeth are not sharp. The overall length of the tool is 6 3/4 inches and the distance between the teeth is 1/8 inch. The teeth are tapered being twice as thick at the top than at the point. The entire blade is 1/8 inch thick at the top and tapering down as noted. Thanks in advance and let me know if you I can provide anything further. Scott

I don't know what it is but it's not from the Marines. USMC was United Shoe Machinery Co. They made all kinds of things, including various hand tools.

Looks like something that might have been used to untangle horse mails & tails??
(And also used as a hoof knife, except the end is broke off of yours.

Could also be some sort of upholstery tool??

Here's something similar I have had for 50' years.
Never got a positive I.D. on it either, but an old timer told me it was a horse main comb.

It worked great for getting chuckle-burs out of my bird dogs hair!!

But it could be a combination monkey comb / oyster shucker too for all I know??

Doesn't apply here, but USMC also meant US Metal Can co. I have a bunch of old Jerry Cans marked USMC.

This "USMC"stuff shows up at gun shows quite often.

It's funny listening to Old Timers come up with stories of blood curdling battles fought with implements of curious origin.

Then you go up to them and tell them it's from a shoe company and not the long lost, hand to hand weapon of Tarawa later to be banned by the Geneva Convention and used only under threat of exile to outer space.

I dig the one link with it as a mane comb... Yup, them mud marines were always known for their well coifed mounts.

Yup hoss, that's a puller and some folks used the "teeth" to space tacks and stitch holes.

Todd.
