Another thread got me thinking about my current predicament, that really isn't a predicament, other than having a crap ton of ammo and not really wanting to shoot it for this reason.

Either way,
I have a yugo m24/47 mauser, in 8x57, that I, hate me now, put a scope and turned bolt on. I have another thread on this project elsewhere, and with reasons that aren't an issue here. So, please, restrain the "ruiner! Bubba!" comments.

My problem is, when I shoot the rifle from the bench, the dang scope hits me either on the bridge of my nose, well, mostly there. I have learned to get it to hit me lightly, so it doesn't leave a bruise like it did, and shooting standing kneeling and prone eliminate this 98%.
The rifle is scoped with a Bushnell, 3.3" of eye relief, 4-12x40 AO, huntsman, or something, I bought it for 80 bucks or so. Not expensive, and not quality, but I figured it would do. The stock i have been shooting with was a pre-sported k98 stock i modified to fit the action, and the rifle is firmly held in place, no problem there. Standard steel butt plate.

I just bough a new stock, a ramline synthetic, in hopes that it might help absorb some of the recoil.

I am also a small person, 5'8", 135-140, depending if it is rock climbing season or not for me. I have thought of gaining weight, but any excess useless weight really makes climbing a bit challenging.

If I missed any critical info, ask away, but other than that, what can I do?

recoil.

There are a few ways to manage recoil.
1.(Easy,cheap) You could get a slip on rubber recoil pad.
2.You could get a more permanent screw on recoil pad.
3. Shoot it from a lead sled or another rest.
About the scope it is possible the stock you got is too short and the new stock will correct the problem, other wise I'd go for a scope with longer eye relief.
And lastly don't sweat bubba'ing a Yugo M 48 they are plentiful.;)

The slip on recoil pad would add an inch or so to the length of pull. It won't help with eye relief but it will give you more room to put your head on the stock.

If you have shorter arms, and are shooting from the bench, the length of pull could be causing excessive felt recoil. If it is too long it forces you to creep up the stock to get the correct sight pic through the scope, adding a recoil pad would make matters worse, also if the stock has a lot of drop, that will make the recoil feel stiffer. You can add shims to the comb to bring your eye into the same plane as the scope to correct the drop at comb, but to correct length of pull you would have to remove some of the length of the stock enough for the correct pull with the recoil pad.

The 8mm Mauser is just on the cusp , recoil wise, of being fun to shoot, and with an ill fitting stock and adding the scope can be just plain hell if every thing is not perfect.

3.3" is pretty good for eye relief, maybe 4" is the best you are going to do on a conventional riflescope. A BIG +1 on a good recoil pad, makes a world of difference.

Hate to bring this thread from the dead, but did the Ramline stock fit the m24/47? Which Ramline stock did you get?

I'm on the verge of getting a yugo mauser myself but before I do I want to know what my aftermarket stock options are, and so far I can only find wood stocks.
