Last November I bought a Remington 700ADL Varmint in 308. Today I finally ordered a Mueller 4-12x40 AO APT tactical scope, rings and Harris bi-pod for it. Also ordered dies for my press. The rifle is finaly coming together. I'm going to shoot it a while with the factory stock to see if I really need to change it. Last time I had it out I was getting .69moa at 100yds eith the crappy Remington scope that came with it.

.69 moa is better than any WW II sniper rifle. Back then, 2" moa was acceptable.

I know. That's why I'm hesitant to mess with the stock. Over st Sniper Central they did a review on the SPS Varmint which has the same stock. They got .75, and said the rifle was a workable gun as is.

I changed my stock on SPS Varmint to B&C and groups improved from 0.75 to 0.25, your choice of course

I'm kinda limited on stock choices with it being an ADL, but have looked at the HS Precision as well as the Choate Tactical.

When you change stocks, options open up.

When you get the new stock, you can convert an ADL to BDL easily.
It takes a trigger guard with hinged floor plate and a magazine box.
While you're at it, you might consider an extended mag box so you can load longer OAL if you want.
They sell all the parts in a kit.

Or, convert to detachable box magazine. They sell kits for that too. Detachable magazines are expensive, but very handy. For 308 you can get 5-round and 10-round mags.

Yep, the working man's modular approach to get what he wants, a little at a time.

I actually prefer it that way. You get to make changes and shoot as you go. I think it makes no sense when guys buy a 700P, take the HS stock off for something else, when it has the same barreled action as the SPS. plus I want a 22" heavy barrel. So I get to cut down my 26" and get a better crown.
