I have a new .22 ruger target model. So far I have fed it Remington thunderbolt, federal bulk pack, and Winchester X standard velocity.
The Remington and federal jamed at least once on every mag. The Winchester jammed on 1 of 5 mags shot. It fails to fully eject while the next round is being chambered, and then causes a jam. The gun was cleaned when first brought home, and only has about 300 rounds through it.
I had a mkii years ago that would use any ammo.
What ammo should I try? Or should I send it to ruger to see if something is wrong?

All I know is my mark ii doesnt jam. ever. So I don't know if you have an ammo problem or not. I'm thinking not.

I truly think yours is the first Ruger Mk anything that I have heard of giving trouble like this.
I really don't know an answer but I would suggest hopping over to the ruger forum and picking their brains a little.
The only thing I would suggest is fully taking it apart and check to make sure there is no burr on the chamber mouth, on the extractor, anything that might be causing this problem.
There are so many of the things out there there has to be a simple fix for it.
Good luck and let us know what you learn.

My MKIII doesnt like any of the ammo you have tried in your gun either. I use either American Eagle or CCI standard. American Eagle gives me very good groups and is not very dirty.

Not sure where they are saying to take material off.
Be sure to read all the post before you consider doing anything and if you have a question post a message for Bullseye. I assume you having troubles with all magazines. That being the case, here's another link that looks at the magazines catch:

I have a MKIII678 and have ocassional FTEs that aren't enough concern to make modifications [yet]. Federal Value Pack ammo that I buy at WMT has worked pretty good for me and I've stayed away from Remington.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to strip it down tomorrow and take a look at the mag catch and other parts for burrs. If I don't find anything obvious I'll send it back to ruger.
tlen, thanks for those links.

Try the CCI mini mags or Federal Champion 510 before sending it back. I had trouble with Rem and Federal bulk with my MK3 target. The CCI and 510s feed flawless however. I was also recommended Federal Gameshock by Ruger.

I didn't get a chance to strip it down and look for burrs yet, going to do that tomorrow.
I have read a few post where people have put in volquartsen exact edge extractors, and have had good results. For the 10 or 12 dollars for this part, do you think its worth a try before going back to ruger? I will keep the original parts to reinstall if it goes back to ruger. Also going to try some different types of ammo.
Anybody use this extractor?

Most of my Rugers have needed the Volquartson "exact edge" extractor to function with the cheap ammo.

The mag mods helped, but extractor was the final solution for mine.

My MK III has had similar problems. It frequently (5-6 shots per mag)jams on any/every brand of hollow point ammo ive used(CCI, Federal, Remington, Winchester, Aguila). It only likes round nose bullets, and it likes CCI the best.
